First Bowling ball 2010

Ok, I don't think it turned out too bad, so I'm posting it. I intended to use black grout, but apparently I ran out, so white it was. I've waited tooooooo long to grout this thing, I couldn't wait another day to run to Lowes to get more grout :)

Thanks for the explanation, Kelly. THAT is quite amazing. I wouldn't have EVER thought about that! I have 3 bowling balls sitting in my garage in need of dressing up! Now, let me return the favor. You said >>(sidebar - I now have a 4x4 green patio table without a top, surely there's a use for that???) Here's what I'm doing with a metal patio table without the glass top that I just got...maybe you could do something similar with hour topless patio table. I am putting the bowl from our old Weber BBQ on it and will plant it this Spring. This is a taller table...more like a bar table than a normal-height one. We had used our old Weber grill so much the legs finally just collapsed. At the dump a couple weeks ago, the man at the next bin was readying to toss a Weber grill in the bin and I asked him if I could have it. So, I now have HIS old grill (which is in great shape to use for grilling) and I can use the bowl of my old legless grill and a recycled table as a planter.

Great job..............another idea to put on my TO-DO list! OMG I'll never get to the end. What type of glue did you use to hold the glass pieces on? Does anyone know what type of paint may have been used on the ones in the GJ Inspiration Album. My thought process really started rolling after seeing all those inspireing bowling balls.

Its actually the adhesive that can eat the mirror backing off and make it spotty. I personally like that effect-it looks antique. Solutions to that are to either seal the mirror with miror sealant before gluing or use proper adhesive. (Loctite silicone sealant and adhesive for example.) The e 6000-I used that once upon a time before I met silicone and it held up very well thru all kinds of weather so it will probably be fine. Next time-get silicone, its cheaper than e 6000 anyway. Grouting--I like to mix my grout dry-nice and thick, not runny. Dryer grout is easier to apply and clean. Smoosh it in all the spaces, wait a few minutes-and I mean a few, especially if its hot, and with a slightly damp spong or crumpled newspaper remove the extra. wait till it sets up a bit and clean it better. (so you dont remove it from the spaces). Its not hard and everyone kind of develops their own way to do it. Good luck!

Bowling Ball Bobber This is such an easy project according to Member lisaisewcrzy: Prime the ball first with , I used Kilz. Then, paint the top half white enamel spray paint. When it dries tape off half of the ball with painters tape and spray paint the bottom red enamel. Let it dry well. I used a PVC Pipe end cap for the top, primed and painted black. I then added a "U" shaped hookto make it look realistic (drill holes in the cap and then stick in the hook.) To finish, I glued the cap on to the ball with silicone adhesive caulk. Beautiful!!! Good Job! I have grouted and not liked the color...so did a paint wash over the grout, with watered down craft paint(acrylic)and it works great to change the color...and your imagination/possibilities/color choices are endless!

What did you use for glass, can you explain wrappers? It looks very unique! I bet that will sparkle in the garden!
I had two bowling balls for the longest time and did not do anything with them. I was going to do as you ladies, but somehow the notion left my head and got rid of the balls. But, I hear you can go to the bowling alley and get balls they are going to retire. Now I wish I did not get rid of them.

Very pretty kelly_oh! You will have to explain how you made them. I thought it was some cool glass until you mentioned the Snickers wrappers. Now I'm intrigued!

thank you, thank you. I have to give the credit to nanatricia, she posted one quite awhile ago that I just fell in love with, I tried to find it, but it looks like the link to the picture is broken. Anyway, its a bowling ball, I took candy wrappers -foil type ones, and oreo and nutter butter lunch pack wrappers :), though on another one I'm working on, I discovered that gum wrappers are a dream - siliconed them down on the ball, took safety glass (courtesy of my Mom breaking her patio table as she got it out this Spring) and siliconed that over the wrappers, then grouted it. One thing I did discover, if you find you have a loose piece of glass, its very worth your time to go back and re-silicone it, don't expect the grout to hold it there - it won't. I still need to seal it, then I'll put it out in the sun and watch it sparkle!! Before I give it to my cousin ;)

That is so sparkly and I love sparkly, you did a great job on the ball and a great job on the instructions. I want to do a red, white and blue one, but not sure what I will use for the color yet. Thanks for sharing.

Mimi, I thought I already missed it!!! Though I am going to have to miss it, I seem to have aquired myself a BF and I'm supposed to help him finish his moving and cleaning this coming weekend. hmpf, men. :)
Frou, buy some of the lunch pack mixed cookies, with nutter butters and oreos - there's your shiny red and blue or rice krispie treats are a light blue and either dollar store aluminium foil or wrigleys silver gum wrappers would be perfect!!!

what a great idea. I just acquired some safety glass but its smokey so i don't think foil will show thru. I'll have to experiment.
