Corn experts.

Folks, every year I grow corn in the same soil, the plants seem to get shorter. Has anyone figured out EXACTLY what it is that corn needs to produce well? I know that corn is a nitrogen stripper. I have added pure nitrogen about every year I have grown corn but the plants keep getting shorter in height. The first year of planting with my Silver Queen corn, I had stalks that were over 12 feet in height. Lucky now to get 8` on a good year. Any experts / truly experienced, out there that can say exactly what it is that corn will need year after year? One other question comes to mind in all of this. Soil PH. Throw that into the mix and what does one wind up with even when soil nutrients are ideal?
