On our way back home from a short trip to Branson, Missouri, my Dh and I stopped at a few flea markets in Northern Arkansas and picked up some deals. My Dh is even looking for glass items for my totems now. Lol. I found a glass bunny lid that I will use as a topper for a totem I'm making for my sister's birthday in July. Her nickname is Bunny. I found green insulators that I will be using to make hose guides. The canning jars will be filled with sand and candles and hung outside. But my favorite treasures are the singletree which I will hang from my oak tree with plants. The little rooster, which will probably be used on a birdhouse and the welcome sign that will go on a fence post. On the other side the sign says go away. Lol. Thanks to all the talented people on this forum for the great ideas.

Excellent finds, my favorite is the iron rooster since that's my kitchen theme. You do know we're be waiting to see pics of those fantastic totems, don't you!!!

I love fleamarkets and yard sales! Earlier this spring I trash picked an old wooden chair with a broken cane seat. I put a galvanized bucket into the seat frame where the cane originally was and filled the bucket with nasturtiums (I drilled drainage holes in the bottom of the bucket). It looked really cute, and I was looking forward to the nasturtiums climbing all over the chair back. Unfortunately, I didn't consider the fact that the chair was largely veneer rather than solid wood. The whole thing fell apart during a few weeks of rainy weather. I picked this up at a yard sale last weekend along with a nice strawberry jar and a cool frog for the garden: Behind the birdbath you can see the old iron gate I picked up for my potager. Also, you can see one of the pair of huge, handmade Italian terra cotta pots I got on Craigslist for a song (something about the perspective of the photo makes it looks small, but they are really huge). I just read in Fine Gardening a tip from someone saying they collect old crystal doorknobs and insert them in the top of bamboo poles to decorate their stakes. Sounds great. Wow! We used to sell them at the nursery I worked at but I never had one. Such a cool looking fern. We haven't been to a good flea market since we moved here in 2006. We need to go to Jax and check one out.

Hi Joey, I absolutely love your wild gladiolli they are stunning and I wish I could grow them around here but they have to be lifted each fall. I just love the combination of the brilliant orange & yellow colors!! As for your hippeastrum, I would say that is a vittatum hybrid aka an heirloom variety that has been passed over the fence so to speak for many decades. Kristi has one too that she got from someone's yard and I sort of have one. Many times these are fragrant, is yours? The leaf that shows on the pictures looks healthy so I have hopes that you got a healthy plant, it looks like it!! It's very pretty by the way and it has nice veining!! Google Gordie which is Kristi's version and see that they have some similarities, more so than with mine. Great haul by the way, an afternoon of sheer fun for people like us!!! Donna

Craftylady, I agree with you about the rooster, since that's my kitchen theme too. I'm slowly adding them into my garden as well. Lol. As soon as the totems are done, you can be sure I will post pictures.

Ohhhh, I'm drooling! VERY NICE GOODIES!!! Totems...how many do I really need?!! I'm just addicted to making them!!! hmmm, maybe I could use a few more....

Great finds. I'm totally green here. I also collect roosters. And bunnies! I really envy your finds on the amber glass stuff tho, I'm in process of making an amber totem and need some larger pieces. Just recently I found a an amber rooster, which is a bottle, and he'll be my topper of course.

Can't wait to see what you do with your haul. Lucky you to have a DH like that too. LOL.

The white fluted plate/bowl is one of those things
that I would have second thoughts about using
in a totem. It would make a pretty one tho.

Wowie:) Love all the glass,but especially the blue mason jars, I'm always on the look-out for #13 on the bottom. My cousin used to tell me the moonshiners broke those because #13 was bad luck:) And love the milk glass, I've been collecting it. That welcome sign would look great on my porch and the rooster in my kitchen!

Kirk, I wish I could take credit for the hose guide idea but it was from someone on this forum. I was so excited when I found the insulators. Everyone has such great ideas that I copy all the time, including you.
Karen, I wish I could find an amber rooster to go with my clear one. It will be awesome as a totem.
Nonacook, I agree the white fluted bowl is too pretty to use on a totem but that is why I bought it. Lol.
Kudzukween, I never knew about the numbers on the blue mason jars, I looked and mine have the numbers 5 and 12 on them. But you can be sure I will be on the lookout for the number 13 now.
Can't wait to get started, if only the rain would stop so I could go to the barn to get my stuff. Lol.
