I have always used the GE siliconeII like for doors and windows, and have always had good luck I don't know what else to use but then there are others on here with much more experience and more knowlegable then me.

Welcome! I'm new too and like you, I'm soooo enjoying the folks here! Not to mention their ideas, inspiration and creativity!

I have only used GE Silicone to glue my statue bunnies to rocks but last weekend hubby brought home Gorilla Glue, Waterproof.

There are Two kinds --- One is an amber stuff that if you brush some water on the two pieces you want glued, then spread the gorilla glue on one piece, stick the pieces together and the bond is permanent.
Believe me, I tried like heck to get this stuff apart and it wouldn't budge!

The only problem with the Amber Gorilla glue is that once the two pieces are joined with moisture, it bubbles. The bubbles kind of ooze out the sides and you can definitely tell it's amber colored.

The other Gorilla Glue (I haven't tried it yet) is clear and the bottle says "Dries White".
I'm wondering if they make a clear, dries clear?
I'll have to check it out on my next trip to Ho-De because I too want to make some glass flowers.

Oh, the Amber Gorilla Glue/Waterproof -- try really hard not to get it on your hands. Doesn't hurt but boy, is it a bugger to get off!

I have always used the GE Silicone II clear. I try to get enough, but not a lot. I keep Q-tips handy to take away excess after piecing them together. I give them a good 24 hours to stay---and always at least a few days to cure.

I, too, have always used GEII for windows and doors, and my totems are 'stickin' great....Maybe you got a bad tube.
Always check the experation date.

Same here, Nona. I had the experience of getting an expired tube, but otherwise I love the clear GEII for doors and windows. I bought some of the Gorilla Glue, and don't like it tho its holding ok where I used it so far.

I've used the silicone for windows and doors on most of mine and it worked great. The only problem I had was on plates that have a deep groove design. I had trouble getting the stem to stick to those plates. My husband got me some Devcon high strength 2 ton epoxy which I've used in those instances. It dries very clear and quickly. I've heard some not so good things about gorilla glue, but mostly from furniture repair people. It expands and they say it tears the wood apart.

I did my first one and had the same problem. First time the tube was expired - so I got a new tube. First flower held and the second one didn't. The only thing I could figure was that the silicone was not coming to the outside and was not hitting air - when I made it so it did hit the air along the outside, it stuck and was solid.

Hi. maybe you could use some window cleaner on the pieces first, and make sure no oils or moisture is on it. Down here if I have a piece inside and take it out,it sweats! I always use the clear silicone with excellent results. Good luck! Love those glass flowers,ya'll and I may just have to make some myself :)

hi purplemoon! feel like i already know you from lurking around here for about a month. thought, why am i doing this when i could be right in here talking w/ all of you guys! so here i is!
alas there was trouble in paradise this weekend, oklahoma got hit hard w/ storms and the golfball size hail broke all but one of our glass flowers that we made. it got three vehicles, a camper and about 50 holes in our roof. it was awful. i could here all of my claypot buddies, birdbaths and all of my glass and ceramic garden stuff getting broke al to pieces. i started to cry as we watched from the frontporch doorway, then i saw our two gr'babies standing there looking in amazement and i realized right then how very blessed and protected we were. it could have been fatal but GOD took care of us. so, its back to my little workspace so i con commence to make more stuff. maybe next time i need to make things out of industrial steel!! think that will withstand the okie tornadoes??
