Without the thinning of plants you'll feel bad when it's time to harvest...catch-22. Death to excess plants. I am God. *thunder bolts* YOU LIVE! YOU DIE!

No, because they go into my compost to feed the other plants!
If they don't make it at the dinner table, they go to the compost!
If you're asking if I feel bad about taking a life..............no.It's a plant.

I feel guilty, because it always goes the same way. I have a bunch of plants, they end up squished together under the lights, their branches get all tangled together and rip off, and the plants don't get an optimal amount of light. Later in the season, I get overwhelmed about watering all those plants, and they don't produce as well as they would have if I watered. Then I tell myself "why did you do this again?? You would be much happier if you had a few healthy plants!". I know that too many germinating is the beginning of a vicious cycle, so yes, I feel guilty in advance when too many sprout!

I'm 54 and I feel old. It's my attitude and I know it's not a good one. I used to look a lot younger than my age. Ever since I went Hypothyroid I have noticed I'm aging a lot faster. I have an appointment with an eye doctor on Monday. Just in the last few months my upper lids have drooped. My eyes seem swollen and watery and they are always red. I'm hoping it's allergies but this just came about recently. It could be Thyroid. I saw Christie Brinkly on T.V. the other day. She is 55 and looks like she's 30. I try to keep a mental picture of her in my mind. Whenever I'm feeling old I think of her and tell myself, "If Christie can look young so can I". Yesterday I was shopping for a face primer in Sephora. A young salesgirl tells me, "here try this, my mom uses it and loves that it covers fine lines and wrinkles". That didn't help at all. Donna

What Do You Do "When Customs Wrongfully Confiscate Your Plant?

I'm not sure what to do. I would either file a complaint with customs to try to sort it out or message Iyares on eBay and tell them what happened. They may be able to sort it out or offer to send you another plant. Last year, I had a similar situation. I ordered a Christmas cactus from a seller on eBay and Customs either seized it or sent it back to the seller. Three weeks later I received a letter from Customs explaining that because it didn't have a phytosanitary certificate and other necessary documents it wasn't allowed to go through customs. Also earlier this year, I ordered a Hoya Kerrii from a seller named bkinterplants and the poor plant was in transit for over a month and the poor plant was so stressed out that it died a week later from a fungal infection. The seller offered to send a replacement plant if I ordered another plant but I decided to get a refund from eBay. It took a couple weeks to get the refund after a case was opened for item not as described. You can always explain the situation to eBay and ask for a refund since eBay covers your purchases.

start by differentiating your terms .. potting media... is media engineered to move water thru a pot .. retaining what moisture the plant needs .. it can be varied according to the plants grown ... frankly.. its rather expensive to be spreading it in the garden ... but if you have the checkbook for such.. go for it ... mother earth is soil ... it does not belong in pots.. mostly because it usually causes more watering problems ... and .... finally.. dirt is what is all over you and the house.. after you play in either of the above ... the word mean nothing in the garden ... i dont understand what you mean by adding soil at planting ... what do you mean ... little mounds??? ... just put down the your mulch ... if later you decide to get some soil .. you can rake the mulch back and spread it around... or get some compost .. and build your soil over the years ... and then put the mulch back ... and if you have reseeding plants already growing.. then just forget about it.. apparently they like what they have.. so why change it... this year anyway ... ken

It depends on how they die and what my mood is. I've unintentially killed my son's Venus fly trap when I let it flower (Who would have known they A) flowered and B) that it would kill them). I felt I needed to run out and replace it as if it were a dead goldfish. He loved that darn plant - he even named it Wolverine.

But there are some days I come home and look for things to thin or just rip out while visualizing my irritations from the day.

In the fall, when it's time to put the veg garden to bed, I find it really depressing. I try to let as many things die on their own, but comes a time. It's more of a realization that the season is over and winter is upon us than anything else. Especially after all the work and worry. But the look of my garden, clean, mulched, fertilized, and ready for next year is a consolation. This fall I tore out one whole perennial border. It had something that came with the house. I gave it two years, but it just didn't do it for me soooo, rip. There are some volunteer native Monarda in one section and next spring I'll move my Jacob Kline over and get some white and pink and hopefully some dotted horsemint and it will be a beautiful splay of Monardas in their jester caps, in all the colors and beset by humming birds. I have two night blooming cerrius that are about 160 years old, a vine thats 37, and two geraniums that are 35, so I try not to inadvertently kill too many things of value.

Weeds - not at all. In fact, it's a good outlet when work has been frustrating.

Thinning seedlings - I feel a little twinge. That is mostly guilt for planting too thickly to begin with, but I get over it quickly.

I do feel sorry for volunteer tomato plants that come up in spring. I
try to transplant some. Next summer they will have to be pulled up,
no feeling sorry for them.
