I planted green peas a week ago. Still time to plant
I planted mustard green and finugreek greens, both about 2" -3" tall now. you can still plant these

On my summer garden, hot peppers still putting up some, eggplants putting flowers and few eggplants, and tomatoes just hanging on to life, green and blossom drops, no tomatoes this late season yet.

This was my first time in my garden too and enjoyed summer crop. now waiting for winter/spring.

My understanding is that winter is good for green and leafy veggies. It doesnt hurt to try though. I am going to plant fennel in a few days.

If you understand the basic horticulture, then you can spend time thinking about soils & pests along with types of crops to germinate or transplant. Here's what I've planted in the past few weeks in my raised beds that get winter sun:
75 red onion bulblets
Seeds:
35 bok choi
35 green cababge
75 Nantes carrots
50 red beets
30-50 lettuce
30 snap peas
100 Lisbon onion seeds
50 cilantro (these get sprinkled amongst landscaping & let go to flower & seed too).

I'm wanting to get garlic, ginger and potatoes in the ground too, but have no source for the taters right now.

I have to protect the lettuce from pillbugs and earwigs and little else, so I use insecticidal soap or handpick or overplant and let them nibble. The cabbage worms will clearcut my brassicas, so I use Bt. Everything else grows nearly pest & pathogen free for me in the soil I've worked to improve (a discussion for a different thread). I directly sowed everything this year, but I've used flats and container for Fall germination in the past too.

I'm using activated compost tea on my artichokes and seedlings and no other ferts right now. I'm also hacking back all my vines, except the raspberries, who's pruning schedule is confusing me. I'm eating my little seedless Kishu tangerines and patting myself on my back for them, even if almost everything else in the yard is either done for the year or 2 inches tall right now.

This is my second fall season with raised beds. I planted snow peas in September and they are just starting to flower. They did quite well last year. I have arugula that has re-seeded itself and is growing like weeds. I recently planted 3 types of garlic (for next year harvest). I planted napa cabbage in September, the plants are large but lots of holes. I have a serious slug problem. I have several kinds of lettuce in different stages of growth. I also have radish, cilantro, and onions planted. I am trying beets again, they were small for me last year. My swiss chard was planted in the spring and is still going strong.

We are blessed to have year round gardening in SoCal!

Just wanted to suggest favas for your winter veggie list.

I've done several plantings over the last month as I converted my beds from summer to winter.

The first bed was one I let go wild over the summer. It had the most productive volunteer tomato plant in the garden as well as a bunch of fennel, rainbow chard and kale that all went to seed. I finally pulled everything and tilled and fertilized the bed and then planted some lettuce and green onions. Curiously, none of the stuff I planted came up but the box is now full of rainbow chard, fennel, arugula and tomatoes that all reseeded themselves. Everything is well over a foot tall now, about a month later.

In other beds I have things starting to come up: beets, 4 kinds of lettuce, green onions, red onions, garlic, 3 kinds of kale and carrots. Other things that grow well that I didn't plan this year are turnip and daikon. You can succession plant radishes also in the cool weather.

In the process of harvesting Caigua, Yacon, Kiwano, and Taro from my friend's garden plot we are working on. Oca should be ready to harvest soon as well.

Self seeding dandelion is starting to germinate, excellent lettuce taste on a good portion of the naturalized dandelion greens (no bitterness detected). Found lettuce to be finicky and prone to pests, dandelion greens are a great alternative (healthier too). Waiting for more self seeded purslane and german chamomile now. Goal is to get enough self seeding salad greens naturalized, so sizable harvest can be done any week of the year.

Germinating Garlic bulbs, Jakfruit (Have a couple sprouting out despite the cooler temps). Trying to germinate Katuk (Sauropus androgynus) and Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica). Waiting for a number of Opuntia Ficus-indica to root, from accessions ordered from GRIN (some promising fruit and nopales selections).

Ordering way to many plants to add to the collection :). Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis), Ulluco (Ullucus tuberosus), and many other medicinal herbs which are adaptogens.

Fruiting cacti collection is doing well, just trying to insure they are all happy with the cooler temps and increase moisture.

Tropical fruit and spice collection is growing unfazed by recent cooler temps, Brewster Lychee and Julie mango flushing new growth. Dwarf Orinoco bananas almost ready for harvest. Cara Cara oranges close to harvest. In ground Hass and Reed avocados loaded with developing fruit.

Need to figure out what I am going to germinate in the next few months... To many seeds and plants and not enough time besides the weekends.

So much fun! My rainbow chard (planted in March) is still going strong, so are my bell & jalapeno peppers, and 2 of my heirloom tomatoes, so I can't pull them. Will just plant fewer "winter" veggies. Am planting broccoli, snow peas and cauliflower from starts, herbs are perennial, may try more lettuce now that it's cool. Good luck. And don't worry - try whatever you want, with our weather the seasons are less strict.

Most cool weather seeds are in and doing well. I took time to cover seedlings with Remay cloth over my PVC cages that set on top of them. It was a great move - as this is the first year I outsmarted the cabbage butterfly. Now that temps are in the high 40's at night, the bf's are seen less so may be able to remove cloth entirely. The lettuce - especially is thick and now harvesting.

Still have Anaheim peppers, poblano and various bells and hot peppers bearing well and finally ripening.

Of interest, a Roma tomato is still producing and am considering planting more next year - as my summer crop of other toms were disappointing except for a few heirlooms. The Romas seem to be more disease resistant in my soil.

Still picking Satsuma mandarin oranges, and some Valencia juice-types, Eureka lemons doing very well this year, and Bears lime - which is loaded as well (makes nice wine).

In the next few months - I will start some seeds under lights, to have ready for potting in areas that will be harvested - keeping the beds always producing, and adding small amounts of bone meal when planting.

This year, I emptied quite a few boxes (have 9 in all), and refurbished the soil with manure, compost and after thorough watering and turning - planted seeds.

The blood meal, bone meal and compost will be added periodically over the season to renew the soil for the growing plants.
