Calamity, Is that a table top you turned into a stained glass hanging. Or did you piece it together? Would never had thought grout would hold, do you have a ring around the edge? It is simply spectacular. I love stained glass have a ton of it myself..but never have made, and the grout method seems much easier than the soldering..etc. Great job it's beautiful!

I used a pc of 1/4glass, glued the stained glass to it using silicone adhesive, leaving grout lines, grouted, drilled holes at first so I could hang it up(using old hanging lamp chain(recycled)! My Dog Whisperer window is the same, just used an old wooden window, for the glass substrate.

That's really beautiful! Love the bluebird...one of my favorites!

Well...fairly heavy, it is a 1/4glass 20"across, with more glass and grout on it, I just hope it does okay with the really windy days here...as in the holes I drilled holding up to the wind force.

OOOOOH! Wow! I KNEW I wanted to see it! It's just gorgeous. I know I've seen the idea posted here before to put the glass on glass, but it didn't really click in this old brain of mine!

NOW, I've got questions! Did you use the GE Silicone II for the glue? If so, did you completely cover the back of the stained glass or just put a dab of it on? (I'm thinking you'd see it if it were just a dab, but if it were completely covering the back of the stained glass, it would all look the same so you wouldn't notice there was adhesive between the stained glass and the glass surface.

Also, what do you use for grout? Is it a special grout used for glass or do you just use the grout you use for mosaic projects...and if so, is it sanded grout?

I REALLY want to try and make something like this...it's sooooo very pretty! OH...and what kind of drill did you use to drill through the glass? I use a ceramic bit for dishes, but I don't know that it would go cleanly through glass without splinters around the edge. Thanks for the info...and for sharing your birdies!!!

what a cool idea...it looks great, hanging in the sun, so I bet you'd be bringing it in, when there's a wind storm..
who suggested microwave round trays?..
seems that would work fine for sure...I have a few of those.
one time, I thought they would be great for cookie pans..
well, they aren't!..they break in a regular oven, when you try to bake cookies on them..lol

I don't know about drilling a microwave plate, but I have seen them mosaiced and they are great!
I use GE Marine silicone adhesive, it is great and it dries fast and clear, and is in a smaller tube(I'm a instant gratification kinda gal(dries/sets up in 10min) Yes on covering the whole pc of stained glass
I use sanded grout always...nonsanded is mucky and I don't like it, I buy outdoor grout now from a flooring store. And outdoor mortar for some stuff.
I use a diamond drill bit that I bought at the stained glass store.
Next Project: Mosaic the walls of my new pond(scrounged rocks and slate/etc) AND build a rock water tunnel AND build a castle(wire mesh and concrete/mosaiced) for between the pond/rock tunnel and bog garden, a castle that lights up at night. ohhh ya! OBSESSION!!!ha!

Fabulous!! I'd sure put that in a protected place or have it hang down over a window so I could see it inside & out. Do they have clear double suction cups you could use if it was over a window along with chains to secure it above window. Would detract a bit but save it from the wind!
