Traps are old hat. Folks on this forum are using Milky Spore to rid there entire yard of white grubs (beatle larvae) and should last for a decade or more. Read through the old threads on Milky Spore then reply.

Milky spore works the best for Japanese beetles. For any other scarab beetle, not so much.

Because the green fruit beetles specialize on over-ripe fruits, management targets regular harvests, daily if needed.

jean001, Green June beetle larvae eats turf grass roots like other scarab Beatles. Before Milky Spore I used to find a few white grubs in just a bulb planting hole. Now they are all gone for good. June Beetles are rare here up North. Maybe someone from down south will chime in if Milky Spore works for them.

Should have mentioned that this is rolling farm country-former tobacco land-surrounded by woods, pastures, hayfields.and very weedy roadsides. No milky spore applicants here. Will ask our extension agent for input. I rarely see grubs when digging. Am not at all obsessive about the lawn.

Since the traps have worked extremely well in the past, and I gather the raspberries daily, I'm not in panic mode.

Did notice that I see a beetle more often on the very upright sun facing Jaclyn raspberries. These creatures have great taste.

It is a myth that green fruit beetles only eat rotten and ripe fruit. The ones that attack my nectarine trees will eat unripe fruit too. Also as these articles say, control is difficult because they can fly long distances. They are right however that they like to lay their eggs in compost piles, especially ones containing manure.

Biological-Biorational Control To date there are no effective commercial biological agents available to control this grub. The most common parasite is a type of digger wasp, Scolia dubia (Say). This beneficial wasp enters the grub tunnel, stings the grub then lays an egg on the paralyzed grub. The resulting larva feeds in the grub, eventually killing it. Increased flight activity in late September by the wasps was noticed after green June beetle emergence. Unfortunately, even though these wasps help reduce the grub population, many people are afraid of being stung and consider them a nuisance or threat to life. These wasps are not aggressive and rarely sting humans.

Milky disease products effective against Japanese beetle do not control green June beetle grubs nor do any Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.) products.

I will believe that milky spore does not control the large green June beetles when I see a green beetle, but that has not happened yet this summer. In fact, I have no beetles of any kind, including Japanese, Green, or Rose or Masked Chafers. None.

My orchard is normally a magnet for these insects, and the 3 dry weeks we had in July should have brought them in but did not. I know that milky spore does not claim control of beetle species other than Japanese, and nobody is more surprised than I am. They have an acre of fruit tree leaves to play in, but they are not here.

It's pretty hard for me to avoid giving at least some of the credit to the milky spore I put down in late summer, 2007.

Well I just read through some very good scientific research. Milky Spore is a type of bacteria that kills close to 100% of Japanese beetles. MS also kills like 45% of chafers and like only 6% of June beetles etc. Grubs live one season in the ground. The government and some others don't like broad killing of insects. Apparently there are beneficial grubs/beetles. So there is confusion on what grubs MS works on, but the fact is MS kills other white grubs. If there is a large grub infestation MS will be more effective because each grub leaves billions of spores that last in the soil for years.
