(Photos) Sick Strelitzia Leaves. What to do?
Hello again =)
No matter what I do this plant is just cursed. Please have a look at the photos below. There is one leaf where half of it is eaten away, should I just cut it off at the base of the plant of just the leaf itself? And the other is indicative of how the other leaves are doing. They are all just turning brown and curling. The soil is always moist, but it doesn't get much sun (well it used to but I moved it away from the southern window because I thought it was getting burnt.)
How should I deal with this plant? And what do you think is wrong with it?

Comments (9)I'm not sure, I have Early Blight which seems to be very close in behavior (Fungus, airborn, spreads during the same conditions as one another) Most recomend Daconil/Ortho Garden Disease Control, I told my husband when i sent him after it make sure you can use it on produce. and He came back with the right stuff )) It seems to be working in slowing the fungus down. All of my plants are affected to one degree or the other now, however the ones I started and sent to other homes are doing very well, and they are disease free with no extra effort. Comments (2)It could be a buildup of fertilizer salts/minerals in the soil. Repot it in new soil or leach it out next time you water it. I'm finding many are geared towards large growers and so the quantities they are offered at are overkill for my one puny tree. I do see that Southern Ag offers a Chelated General Purpose Minor Element Spray which might be applicable as a soil drench: CHELATED GENERAL PURPOSE MINOR ELEMENT SPRAY � Can be used on all plants including lawns � Contains 6 important nutrients including iron � Prevents & corrects deficiencies that cause yellowing CONTAINS: Iron 2.75%, Manganese 1.00%, Zinc 0.50%, Magnesium 0.50%, Copper 0.25%, and Sulfur 3.8%. USE ON: Flowers, shrubs, trees, vegetables and lawns CONTROLS: Minor element deficiencies, yellowing of foliage, etc. NOTE: Deficiency symptoms can be caused by improper soil pH. RATE: Foliar: 1 tbs. per gallon of water drench: 1 oz. per 100 sq. ft. Lawns: 1 pt. per 1,000 sq. ft. APPLICATION: Mix with water and apply as a drenching spray. Comments (7)Hello Secretsquirrel007 Sorry for my late response, I need to change my settings so I get notifications! My next response will be faster! Oh thats very interesting & I think the plant is at the age of flowering. Do you have any ideas about why its taking one leaf over 3 months to 'sort of' open and why the plant is generally shrinking and majorly slowing down (its usually flourishing making new leaves every month or so... for the last 9 months its basically been dormant). 11 years agoI have the exact same problem with mine (about 10 y.o.) - I had to take it from a super sunny office space to a site where the light is from a huge skylight in the ceiling. I believe that summer will bring the sun overhead in here but I haven't been watering it too generously over the winter b/c I didn't want water to run on the carpet.
In re: Fast draining well aerated soil - is the objective to dampen (soak?) the soil right through so it runs out the bottom and then let dry completely or nearly completely? Has anyone tried using one of those self-watering containers - but set it up so that an inner pot is lifted up from the bottom so I protect my floors but allow the inner pot to drain?
If I water it thoroughly like I've described will this wash those salts from the soil or should I repot and replace the soil?
I did buy a new larger pot and some nice soil but then I read these guys like being potbound and hate being disturbed.
Also, (almost done, LOL) there are 3 babies around the bottom - can I take them off to be repotted? How likely is that to be successful? They look much better than "mom" does at the moment.
