Help with 1st glass totem

I just finished my first glass totem. I tried using the GEII to attach 4 60d nails to the bottom to help stabilize it. They didn't adhere very well and bent and twisted off while I was placing it- in sand no less. I'm concerned as it's usually breezy here. Any tips on how to stablize it?

I use a large heavy plate for the base of my totems. It doesn't have to match, because you can cover it with mulch (or sand).

A lot of totem makers mention using the glass plate that comes in a lot of microwave ovens for the food to go around on. It is very heavy & they bury it in the dirt. Jan

I had't really thought about where I was going to put it, but I do like the idea of the flower arrangement though. I'd hate to sit it outside because the critters are bad about knocking stuff over & breaking them, but that's where the sun would do it the most justice. We have a lot of shade here in the woods though, so there's only so many places the sun would shine through it. Of course, as clumsy as I am, it's not safe in the house either. LOL

Thank you for all your comments. Yes, I liked the slim look and I was able to find quite a few green vases that fit perfectly to make it happen. I found the decanter @ GS and paid $1.50 - yea! It DOES make the perfect topper. I also found two amber ones - one is an owl and the other an Indian.... I'm looking for the right glass to build for the pedestals.... I have a platter on the bottom for a base so it doesn't blow over. Thanks again - your comments give me encouragement (with emphasis on the "courage")!!! Lesa

Thanks for the advice. I think I saw some of those at GW the other day. I'll have to pick them up next time I'm out.

The heavy plates works well and try looking at the website: thistothat.com for gluing info. Kirkus shared it with us a while back. And, don't forget to show us a picture of your totem....we like to drool!

Thanks for the website. That's handy info. I just tried to upload a picture but it was rejected due to size. I'll have to play with it and see if I can reduce the size. But believe me there is nothing to drool over. I love it though.
