And man, I did love it in warm weather...but after a few years of it looking grim 9 out of 12 months, I went with a caramel shade that pulled the warmth of the floor up onto the walls, which IMO, anyway, makes it cosy-in-a-vaguely-minimalist-way in there now: Like you, I did worry about it being too "hot" in the summer when late afternoon sun floods and *can* bake that room if it's 90+. But really it's not too bad then. I don't know what your DR floor is, but maybe just adding white or ivory/pale/spring green accessories and tablecloth in the summer would be enough. Just think peaches, not pumpkins, ha! Yep, I still miss the blue like crazy during our 3 months of sun/warmth, sniff... but I still change out the bedding to white once summer arrives and that keeps it from getting too Peter's-Wife-in-a-Pumpkin-Shell! [And of course I could always follow my own advice and use white or pale blue/green throw rugs etc too!]

Look at SW Evening Shadow (SW 7662) it is a nice light grey. The problem is if you are looking at a sample in a room that still has that some of that yellow/orange paint on the walls it will reflect the color and make the grey look different that what it will look like when the entire room is painted. Your floors will look better when all that yellow and orange are gone.

What style are you wanting to go for? The tiles are looking maroon to me, so I'm going to assume they look a little more orange in person. You could go bohemian/southwest with a deep turquoise or teal. You could embrace the orange but break up the color with an ombre effect. A grey ombre would look nice too and you could do it in paint instead of the tile in the picture. You could go a more traditional vintage direction with a blue wallpaper with pops of orange. The dado could be painted instead of tiled. I'm making bold suggestions because your main complaint is that it is currently bland, but a warm slate grey would be a safe choice.

Any of the blues are nice with the orange. Your idea for just using a window treatment with the blue is also nice. I like the window shade Paul used, and also look on Etsy; there are some sellers there with really unique items. I think a plum/eggplant color in your space could also be amazing. I think someone further up in the thread showed a room with that color combo. On an unrelated note: Is anyone else having problems with the site? I can pull up discussions but cannot access the comments, and cannot post new comments. I can apparently comment on posts I’ve previously commented on, and read comments on these posts. However, I can do all of this only if I access it through my Houzz “Activity” menu, and only if I am on Desktop mode on my iPhone. (Which all I use of late is an iPhone and I don’t use the Houzz app.) I’ve never had this issue before, so not sure if it’s site related.
