Fave , using Silicone GEII , but the best tutorial in in the faq's - it will tell you step by step- look up "totems " they are fun, looking for 'the perfect glass', to designing it , then seeing the finished product. what a feeling of accomplishment !! WOW!

Just a tip to anyone who may not know, when a birdbath is sort of deepish,
and/or has slippery sides (like glass), it is best to place a rock
or something similar in the center for the birdies to perch on.
Strange but true, birds can drown if they can't "walk" out of the water,
most birds are unable to fly out of a body of water.

I could not find tutorial on making glass totems in FAQ, was it removed? If somebody has tutorial, could it be posted? I am new to "garden junking" but have desire to learn. Thanks

Thanks everybody:) I use the glass plates from old microwaves for the base,you can use whatever you have,a glass plate,or anything,because you can cover it with mulch or something. Then gather some vases,and a bowl( I use punchbowls)sometimes a saucer or another smaller bowl under the punchbowl,whatever works! Fit them together to see how they'll stack up,and see if you like the way it looks. I usually glue half of it,then after both halves dry,glue them together. Right now I'm using glass marbles in the bottoms of the bowls,looking for something nice to set in the bottom for the birds to perch on. I use walmart brand clear silicone,it needs a caulking gun to use it,there are other types of glue,the GEII as Suzy mentioned. Have fun,don't worry,there are plenty of vases and bowls out there at yard sales and thrift stores,you can make a lot of them!

Well, you are correct , there is not a FAQ on it that I can find , so I'll give it a shot describing how I make totems, first - shop for glass, looking for smooth glue-able ends (found out hard way not everything "pretty "is easy to stick together.) you'll end up with way more than you need for 1 , soooo, you'll have to plan on 2 or more ;-)
get some GE silicone II sealant from walmart,Kmart,big box stores - stack your glass (or whatever) till you find the right combo that suits you , then start sticking them together, I prefer to start with the bottom piece, and build upward , leaving time between each piece to let it set up, as it can slip off center if you get in too big a hurry - I find I can go back about every 20-30 min and add more,I would guess it depends on what the temp is, I usually do mine inside,so temp is consistant. I also use an old tray to set mine up on, and lay the caulk gun on, in case it drips, wipe off excess GEII right away , as it will dry globby if too much oozes out when pieces placed together .I am like a crow , so I look for sparkly, shiny pieces , but its a matter of personal choice ,of type of glass, ceramic , or china, there are some beautiful totems here in the Junk yard, sure you will get some links to see.
