License Plates

Thanks for the plates I am starting a wall of plates from people on the Garden Junk forum. So far I have Texas, California, Wyoming, and Arizona.

I have not decided what to do with the spares but I will.

Anyone wanting to send plates I will gladly accept them.

I love the signs & plates !!!! I wanted to find a railroad crossing sign ( because my DH is an engineer ) but I read that having a real street/railroad sign is illegal . With my luck ......
I'm still looking for one - but it will be hidden in my yard . I hope your wall Grows !!! :)

Great idea, Robert! I was saving some of my plates for birdhouse roofs. I always wanted a street sign with my name on it.

There are so many special interest plates in assorted color combos available in NC now that I can't imagine how the police keep track. With the addition of a special interest plate frame, many are just unidentifiable without close scrutiny, at least to me. Good thing I'm not a cop! Personalized (vanity) plates were costly and rare back in the Northeast, but more common and not so pricey here (and fun to try to decipher sitting at a red light). I bought into it after reading that the extra fee went directly to roadside beautification and handicapped assess to public areas - today, who knows where the money goes. My plate doesn't have a pretty picture, is actually an ode to my first beagle. I've had it for nearly 15 years now and won't give it up! Oops, I got a little off topic here ..... am sure NC has plate designs w/flowers, but haven't had any urge to shop it out - am happy w/mine and can only hope the fee still goes to the originally stated fund for flowers on medians and handicapped access.

I have a collection of maybe 30 old plates between 1913 and 1927 from the states that the Lincoln Highway ran through. New York to California. After lots of considering, I finally hung them up like a wallpaper border around my living room. they were really cute up there and blended nicely with the other antiques in the room. It didn't look junky at all. Fun and funk, i like that. It was a conversation piece often times. Old road people LOVED it and came to my house to see them used like this. I'd post a picture, but we had to paint the room and i took them all down. Eventually after a remodel, they might go back up again somewhere. They are too cool to leave in a pile unappreciated!

Any wind could blow them unless secured somehow. Depending on whether or not you will accept holes in your walls, here are a couple thoughts: A) Insert plastic wall anchors then cup hooks for the license plates B) Staple gun a strip of velcro onto the wall. Affix an attachment piece onto the backside of each plate. Easy relocation and minimal wall repairs whenever you change your mind.

Robert, I love your display idea of the lic. plates with the speed limit sign! I sure hope you get a lot more plates from the gang here.

Luna, there is a site you can have a street sign made. I had one done years ago using my show dogs "kennelname'.
Sangaree Road. I'll try to find the site for you, think they sold on eBay and probably still do.

You're off to a very good start there! My hubby has a sort of license plate collection too, but he would love that one with the cowboy! His are just local ones.

Mailed it off today, Robert! The gal said it could get there in 5 biz days! I'm on the look out for a 1963 one(same yr as me!lol!), if anyone was thinking of passing one my way....

I am so sorry it has taken me so long. I just packed them up to mail on Monday. I put an extra one in in case you get a chance to trade with another collector.
Can't wait to see pics when you have a bunch more up!

I love this idea and I also love the gal who makes signs out of them by cutting letters out! What a great recyle job!
