I know how you feel...it's raining here in the mountains too. I am so longing for sunshine! I can't even make myself work on a project indoors...got the blahs.

Bad storms last night and this morning, but that didn't stop us from our yard sales:)!!!! Got a few goodies...a couple birdhouses for mosaic, one has a door, one is a three room. One plate to smash...saving it for my daughter to break when she gets here! Spoons for pendants and wind chimes, lots and lots of old jewelry to take apart for the pretty beads:)Four glass encased Japanese miniatures,very very tiny...thought it was mother of pearl,but it was balsa painted nicely...pooh! but using those in some pendants,trying one,to see if it holds up before I use the other 3....but hey, a nickel each! Got a Scrabble game and a Monopoly game,for the game pieces for other projects. And a very large cup and saucer for a bird feeder....and I don't remember what else.....lots of projects,lots of goodies! These are the plates,and a few of the gold charms and buttons and silk dried roses I want to add where the ribbon meets. That is copper colored glitter in the resin.

Two things are keeping me busy.

First, completing the renovations of what a short time ago was a falling down shack in our yard, but is now my workshop. I put in four big windows and a sliding glass door for plenty of light, and built in lots of work tables:

And second, redesigning my kaleidoscope wind chime. I decided to make the top section larger:

And building our 1000 sq. ft. Deck... busy.

The sun is out today it's windy but that's ok by me. After church I'm playing outside!! After all the rain I should be able to do some digging in that new flower bed.

But the benches may have to wait a bit cuz it's been raining here, too. This week, though, we're supposed to have sunny days (in the 70's) and I need to PLANT!! before winter sets in. So I'll be busy with that all week.

Its so easy! The hardest part for me is finding cheap, or better yet free bowling balls.

First I scrub the ball with Dawn dish soap to remove oils from use and alleys. I then let it dry and give it a good scrubbing with a Scotchbrite pad to give it better "grip".Lastly I wipe it down with rubbing alcohol.

I leave the thumb hole open so I can mount it on a rod, if I want. I fill the finger holes flush with fast set cement. You can use wood filler or grout to do this also.

Then the fun part- I go through my mountains of old flower catalogs and cut out pictures. I try to keep them under two inches, to minimize wrinkles. If i just have to have a larger piece, I snip relief cuts inward from the corners to help it lie flat. (You will have a few wrinkles, no matter how careful you are...just make sure you press edges down so you dont get "humps".)

I take Elmer's glue and water it down just a bit. I paint the section of the ball I am going to work on and also the back side of the piece. I just put it on, overlapping attached pieces, and lightly brush glue over top. I use my fingers a lot- for sliding the new piece into position, and lightly rubbing excess glue out from under. If you are rubbing out wrinkles, and it feels "gummy" brush a bit of glue on top again so you dont accidentally rub the image off. I start at the top, opposite of the thumb hole and just work my way around and down. Stop and let the glue dry when you get to the point of having to set it on a finished area. I also set my balls on a soft cloth so I can turn them, and not scrape off any finished area. (Yep, done that,grrr)

I have yet to seal any yet, but I have an outdoor poly gloss made by Krylon that I will be using when it warms up so it wont take days to dry.

Wow! Everybody is working on amazing things! I love this posting! Spring is getting closer...I'm mainly working on cleaning up flower beds (only had a couple nice enough days), pouring through my old torn-out pages of journals on flowers, ideas & of course, this GJ site! So amazing all the wonderful ideas out there! I am envious of the mosaic-ers out there...and that beautiful salvaged bldg. for a workshop. Here's a couple of birdhouses my DH & I have done the past few weeks...and I'll do another post of more. I did get 2 strung along pics anyway! Jeanne S.

I love the birdhouses! My craftiness dont include being able to actually build things, lol. I envy anyone who can use wood and nails. Speaking of mosaics, I have seen on these forums somewhere where folks take simple bird houses and do tile work on them. Wow, are they nice. so many ideas, so little time!
