Briergardener, We used Softflex beading wire and silver crimping tubes. My wife likes to bead and likes this wire for our windchimes as it doesn't twist in the wind. I know other people use other kinds of wire or fishing line. Nothing fancy in drilling. I used drill bits I bought in the clearance bin at the hardware store. The trick is to drill sloooow. I spray WD40 on the spot I'm drilling, put on some country music, and drill oh so slow. It's kind of relaxing. Good Luck! You'll have fun! Bear Hugs! Kirk

Gibsona, the white windchime is three pieces from lamps..the first is a glass lampshade for a bathroom light, the second for a smaller lamp and the top I think was some kind of lamp cover that was just a small, frosted circle with a hole in it. I glued them together, added glass balls, but got stuck with how to fill the hole. I used a small foam cork from a gift I had received and put the cap of a water bottle over it. I poked a hole in the bottle cap and foam to but the line thru. Couldn't find a "sail" for the thing until I saw some aluminum flashing at HD. Used a balpeen hammer to "distress" it and voila. Added beads and my SIL is so excited, she invited some neighbors over just to see it. Can you beat it...doing something so fun and then having others enjoy it? I'm hooked. Thanks again everyone.

I drill glass all the time as i make windchimes and sell them. I use a 9x13 baking dish and put water in it and then a peice of scrap glass. Put the glass you want to drill on top of that scrap piece, now when you start to drill put the bit at an angle then straight up and down. And before you know it your through. I use a dremel tool. I buy my bits of ebay in a small 5 pcs set. And i only pay like 7 bucks for all 5. And they last along time. Have fun making them. It is so much fun.

I remember them from few yrs back. They had a little flower or decal on each slide. The slides hung down in a circle & made a very 'light' tinkle sound. Guy in S.F. had about 300 & I really liked those. Don't remember seeing them in stores tho. Jan
