Planting for fall, seeds already germinated

I cleared some garden areas for fall planting. I planted mustard and fenugreek. these two are used in Northern Indian cooking.

I sowed seeds on Sunday and on thursday both kinds of seeds had germinated already. looks like its their perfect germination time. I also plan on sowing green peas, not sure if its the right time or not. will give it a try

If you are in zone 9, it is too early to plant English peas, if that's what you mean by green peas. Probably not until Jan. Please contact your local ag. extension office for a vegetable gardening guide to plant the right crops at the right time and for lots of other good information, too

I'm sowing consecutive rows of snow and snap peas now. However, I'm near the Ca. foggy coastal - zone SS 22-23, but peas like the cooler weather.

This may not be helpful, but if you are in Ca., Google "Digital Gardener's Southern California Vegetable Planting Guide." I find this the most helpful information for my particular zone. But there are a lot of different zone 9's - I realize that. But if you don't experience serious frosts, then this may be helpful for your need.

cindjo2~ When you say "plant an inch or so deep" ... do you mean I cover the seed shell that's still encasing the cortyledons an inch or so deep?(in other words I would plant it and not see anything above ground) At that depth will the cortyledons be able to pop up through the surface? Or do you mean plant the roots down into the soil and leave the seed cased cortyledons at ground level or above? I'm so inexperienced I apologize for my dumb questions but I really want these to have a chance to survive. I wish I would have direct sown them as you say but I what started out as an experiment to see how the baggy germination method worked has left me in this situation ... well...um... because it worked! LOL caroline~Wow. Have you got a green thumb to spare?!!!! I could use one right about now. Post us some pictures when you get your sunflower heads!! I hope I can get mine to do what yours are doing.

I gave them 3 weeks of dormancy in the garage where temperatures were mostly in the 40s, fluctuating only slightly and finally brought them indoors. I now have them under a 26 watt cfl with plastic over them to increase the humidity, but I'm hoping that some of them will germinate in the next 1-2 weeks.

I sow English peas in late December. For my area (zone 8b) the recommendation is 9/1 - 9/15 for a fall planting or 12/15 - 1/31 for the spring.

This site also says ok to plant peas (English) in Sept-Feb for Zone 9.
