T post drove in ground to form a V drive post at instep side foot to give right angle if drive at heel V be to wide. Ouachita just need surport high wind above 30 mph. Wire does not have to be tight just at point slack out tighters I use rachet type. Wire #12 size I use all parts are at tractor supply store or agri-supply. Trellis wire post are in eye of beholder some more of yard art.

I use the wire found at the link below. I like it because it's vinyl coated, and also because it's green. In my yard, because I have so much hardware (trellises, etc), I paint everything green or brown so they blend in with the plants. Good luck,

This type of wire has held up well in my berry patch for over 10 years.

I use 9 or 12 gauge wire with wirevices. Although that green stuff is starting to look more appealing to me. Just don't try to use it in a wirevice. I got my wire at a local Wilco farm supply store.
I don't think you need to use cement to anchor your posts, but it sure would be strong. You might use the cement if you're not planning on burying your posts very deep. I use 10-foot posts buried two feet into the ground. Seems adequate. The wires are run thru quarter-inch holes drilled thru the posts and anchored at each end with wirevices. I used wirevices only because they seemed cheap, easy and convenient, which they are. But I'm sure Glen or Larry have equally functional ways of anchoring their wires at each end of the trellis that allow occasional tightening. Maybe they could fill us in. I'm keen to know what other folks are doing.

At one end of my wire, I just crimp on a crimp connector so the wire can't pull through my little hole in my iron pipe trellis. On the other end of the wire (which runs through the whole trellis), I use a 6" long threaded eyelet. As I need to tension, I just tighten the nut on the backside. But, really, I've only needed to tension up my 3 year old chester trellis once.... and that's all I ever expect to do on it.

On my raspberries, I put support posts down about 2 feet, but here I did use concrete. This is because the cross sectional area of my 3/4" iron pipe is pretty small (and I don't have any horizontal pieces on the raspberries), and I suspect over time, they might move inwards in the dirt. I also put a connector at the top of the concrete so my trellis become removable (good for mowing).

Yes, I just use a little eyebolt with a 2- or 3-inch threaded stem and a hex nut for length adjustment, just like glenn.

Pass the wire through the eye, make a short wire fold, and use a crimp connector to affix the wire end to the main wire.

It might help to keep the hex nuts lubricated otherwise rust makes removal more difficult. Sometimes I have to undo a wire to get a wayward cane back into line when the cane has become too large to bend under the wire. This occurs only once a year during cane training.

Good point about the rust. My eye bolts are zinc plated for that reason. I also paint them green,along with the rest of the trellis, which gives them another small layer of protection. After 3 years, I'm confident they'll still spin quite easily... we'll see how they look in another 3 years.

I never remove my wire though. If a cane misses a wire, I just put it through on the next one. I have about 8 horizontal wires, so missing one is no big deal. I usually do a walk of my yard once a day, so it's rare for me to miss a wire anyway.

Hmmm... I like the eyebolt trick. A nice, stout washer thrown in there would help out. And unlike the wirevice, you can actually disassemble your trellis. Wires in the wirevice go one way only. Removing a wire means cutting it.

Yes, forgot about the washer; it is needed else the hex nut will just grind into the wood if that is your trellis material.

I use the eye bolt but attach a turnbuckle with a hook on one end and attach the wire to the other end, the hook goes to the eye bolt. This allows me to loosen the wire with the turnbuckle and unhook the whole string and move the wire completely out of the way allowing access for things like mulching, weeding, etc..
