I don't know what it is, but I've seen it on many Money Trees. Have you tried washing it off? More needs to be known. Where is the Pachira located, how much light does it receive, what size of a container is it in, and what is the soil-type? Josh

I'm almost positive that there is drainage....in the re-pot pic, I think I can see the water that has drained out of the pot on the wood below....and then, of course, there's the matching saucer, which I wouldn't expect to see unless there were a drain hole. I'm also fairly certain that this is Pachira aquatica, and any rounded leaves (dead tips) are due to the cultural conditions in which its been grown. Josh

Bialybah, this may be a better topic for the houseplant forum, but if we are to try to address it here (of for that matter, if the Houseplants Forum people try to address it there), we'll need LOTS more information. When you say that the roots look bad, how do you know? Have you repotted recently? How's your soil drainage and how often do you water? How large is your pot and how much water do you give the plant? Do you allow the potting media to dry out in between waterings? If so, how do you know what the moisture level is like down at lower levels in the pot? Is this a new plant or one that you've had for a while? Is the problem something that has gotten worse over time or something that seems to have happened over a short period? Can you give us details about what you've seen and when you've seen it? Can you give details of any changes you've made or tried (replanting, changing watering procedures, changing locations or lighting, etc, etc)? If I had to guess, I'd guess your plant's problem is related to watering and soil moisture levels, but without more information, an accurate diagnosis is impossible.

That not a money tree (Pachira aquatica), it's a braided tropical hibiscus tree. It looks to be potted in too big of a pot. I've had my hibiscus lose all of its leaves after getting too dried out, but it regrew all new leaves once I started taking better care of it and keeping it well watered. They prefer lots of sunlight. During the warmer months, when I keep it outdoors, I grow mine in direct sunlight. I don't think your's is a lost cause just yet. Just give it a smaller pot with a fast draining soil that doesn't stay too soggy, plenty of water and sunshine, and it will quickly rebound and start blooming again.
