canada here,, looking to find some shippable hi bush blueberry bare root plants.. maybe 5-10 nows a good time of yr ..dormancy would also like some raspberry canes,, 5-10 can do paypal but no credit cards. I have one lonely plant that I grew from seed,, the rest gave up the ghost I have just recent ly got a cpl elderberry from the other side of the line.. declared as sambucus (not a lie) and made it fine. long trip and should have hade a bit more moist paper towel byt i have hopes for the best. ty I,m west of sudbury.. that arm waving from under that snowbank.. that would be me

Actually I have 3 now. 2 more came today. I have a Sweetcrisp, and the other 2 are a Patriot and I'm ashamed to admit it....yes...a KaBluey from Gurneys. I had a $50 credit from Gurneys, figured 'what the heck' and decided to use it. I found out that the KaBluey, even though the name is silly, is A-257 selected at the University of Arkansas, so I'm optimistic that it will do well. I just took a look at the roots of each. The KaBluey looks healthy but was so root bound that the roots were a solid mass of very fine hairs. The plant looked like it came out of a pot 4" wide and about 10" deep. I had had to loosen up the mass of roots a little and chunks of the stuff came off in my hand. I'm assuming that's a good thing. I reduced the mass of roots to about 1/2. I've got them soaking in water now and will go back out and pot them in a little while. It's amazing how few real looking roots there are on a small blueberry bush.

Thanks guys! I ended up potting everything up today because I am still not sure where I want them to end up, plus the ground refroze due to a crazy arctic blast this weekend. Hopefully they will be okay - I had them in my root cellar for the past couple of nights, thinking that would protect them from a hard freeze while still being cool and dark, and when I went to get them this morning the wet newspaper around their roots had frozen. Yikes! They're safely potted up now, though, so fingers crossed there's no problem.

I have only two Austins (Golden Celebration and Darcey Bussell) on DH roots and they are planted in a spot with Sycamore root competition, which is probably the only reason I can grow them there. They both have spotless foliage. I am inland quite a bit and at 1800ft. We do get May-Gray and June-Gloom, but it burns off by between 10AM and noon. I have Paul Neyron, which is a rust bucket right next to Rein de Violettes with pristine foliage, never a spot of rust or mildew. All my Teas get a little mildew except Monsieur Tillier. My Lady of Shallot is on her own roots and does very well with perfect foliage. I really want Evelyn but now I am a little scared by the 12 foot canes jerijen mentions. I have Star of the Republic with only a couple blooms that have been scented and I really want scent in my roses so thinking about replacing with Evelyn. But will give SotR a 3rd year to see if those blooms get consistent scent. The 3 or so blooms that I caught with some scent were an amazing strong lemony fragrance. Maybe just doesn't give scent in the heat? I also have James Gallway on its own roots and near Golden Celebration but further from the sycamore. It is establishing more slowly and not behaving like a climber at all yet, next year with be year 3 so maybe I'll get long canes in the Spring.
