My Birdfeeder Sincerely, Olivia

Hi. My name is Olivia Rose. My DaddyÂs computer name is Kirkus and my Mommy is Xmascarolmarie. I made and painted a birdfeeder from a kit I got from Sandy for Christmas for Secret Santa. She is so nice. My Daddy helped me hammer the nails on the birdfeeder. We kept bending the nails with the hammer but there were extra nails. I painted dog bones and dog paws on the birdfeeder because I love dogs. We have two Golden Retrievers. Marley and Gracie and a kitty named Toeby because he has 6 toes on each paw. I want to be a vet when I grow up. I really wanted to do the Secret Santa but my Daddy said I wasnÂt old enough. I like looking at the pictures people post on the Garden Junk site. I think you did a WONDERFUL job on your birdfeeder!
The pawprints and dogbones look great and the colors are so bright and cheery. What a nice gift that was and good for you for getting it done. You have accomplished more than I have this winter, lol!
I share your love of animals. I have 5 dogs and way too many cats. I hope you will continue with your dream of being a veterinarian.

Oh...Olivia...I love it!! You did a wonderful job!!

I'm so happy you put dog paw prints and dog bones on it, because I love dogs too. We used to have a blond Lab that we loved very much. Now, we just have two kitties, Misty and One Eyed Pete. Yup...he only has one eye, but he doesn't mind a bit!

I just showed your pictures to Jim, and he thinks you did a GREAT job! We're glad you didn't run out of nails. We always bend nails when we build things, and even worse, we hit our fingers with the hammer a lot too! LOL

If you don't mind, I would like to print the beautiful picture of you holding your bird feeder and keep it on my desk. It makes me happy!

Then playing possum is real, not a myth! She sure looked dead in that picture. Was she trapped in the recycle bin or did you just startle her? I think I remember you finding one of her ancestors a few years ago in the same bin, although I don't remember it playing possum. I'm trying to imagine what it would be like to climb over a bunch of huge empty bottles and jars and cans - not the easiest ladder. Glad she's OK, if a bit histrionic. Claire

Pink Traviata does fantastic at nearby rose park .. that one is a beast in alkaline clay, hardy for the past 10 years. I'm putting MULCH FILM (black plastic) to kill grass for a new garden next year, but it takes 6 months to completely kill the grass, to be ready for next spring. Our cold zone zaps roses so small, it's so easy to fit into the garden. My La Reine is 1 foot by 0.5 foot, lots of blooms. My Barcelona (very hardy) is even smaller, like a mini-rose. The blooms of own-root are small too, but they get big after 4 years, if the soil is made loamy. When I first got William Shakespeare 2000, it was so small, and the bloom was 1 inch. !! Now in its 5th year, the bush is much bigger, and the bloom is at least 4 inch, I put tons of gypsum in its planting hole, which helps with zillion petals & also sulfate of potash for potassium.

Ok. Been awhile and I'm making progress. Sorry, we're painting and repairing walls so ignore the stuff around. New nubby rug and a great coffee table. We are planning on ordering the 80" media console from West Elm. For now we've been doing the chair in front of the fireplace but I think it needs to be farther away if we actually have the fireplace on. If they are together by the window, do I need something on the opposite side or do I just move everything farther onto the rug? Did the SW color consult and planned on skyline steel in the entry, office nook and LR nook, with elephant ear everywhere else. Skyline came out horribly yellow up next to the fireplace (the picture is the second color we tried - Stormy Weather from Ace - that also doesn't seem to work). I would love to skip the grey altogether but it's all open and I don't know where to stop as it extends up and down the stairs... I love this new art piece and would love to put a color accent behind it, but that would mean a plain color for the entryway. The bench I bought is too blue-grey but I cannot return. The office adjacent to the entryway is a deep orange-red color. Will the stupid bench look okay against grey once I get some art up? We are planning on a pretty aqua/mint for the backsplash - you can just see my samples on the far right middle. I think it will look nice with the orange, and keeping the dining room the river way or something similar (maybe needlepoint navy). What should I paint the rest of the walls? One grey all around? Grey with lighter accents? Colors everywhere?

I think this is the first time I've seen this thread and your garden. You have a wonderful eye for gardening and photos. I think Monet would have liked to paint awhile in your garden. The picture of borage might be one of my favorites, and pond shots with all the textures and colors. Also the rain spotted Munstead Wood. The blueberry leaves in fall. All really a feast for the eyes.

Olivia Rose, that is so pretty with the bright colors you used. And since I LOVE dogs, your choice of pawprints and dog bones was perfect I think. You did a very good job, and you are a lot more artistic than I am!! I hope you paint more things to show us.

Olivia...Great birdfeeder! Love the paw prints and the dog bones. My DH & I love dogs also. We've had boxers for many yrs. and our old dog, Bandit, was an old boxer who died from old age. We were very sad and then after some months, we adopted a boxer-mix dog, whose name is "Nellie." She has been a wonderful dog for us and for the grown kids and grandkids when they come home to visit. I'll attach a pic of her on the conversation side.

I'm new to "junk" forum, but just wanted to tell you how pretty your birdhouse is. I love dogs .. I have 2 dogs, 1 amazon parrot with a bad attitude..lol.. numerous fish and 6 horses so my vet and I work pretty closely together. I hope your dream of becoming a vet comes true for you. Great job on the birdhouse !

What a BEAUTIFUL bird feeder!!! You did such a great job!! And I love the picture of you with your creation. You're a lovely girl and have a wonderful smile! I'm sure the birds will just love your feeder! I see you still have tons of snow at your house too! It is snowing right now here in Virginia and so far we have about 4 inches. Thank you so much for showing us your feeder....we love it! And thanks to your Daddy for helping you!

Olivia, wonderful job on the birdfeeder! I like the choice of the dog theme since birds aren't afraid of dogs like they are of cats. If your golden retrievers are anything like my golden retriever Jake that I had years ago, the birds wouldn't be afraid of dogs at all!

Jake once caught a baby robin that fell out of its nest in our yard. I was afraid he might accidentally hurt it so I was chasing him around trying to get the bird away from him. Of course, he thought it was all great fun! He would stop and throw the bird up in the air, it would flutter to the ground and he'd pick it up again and run like the dickens. Meanwhile the momma robin was diving at his head and chirping up a storm! I finally caught up with him and got the baby bird away.

You know what? That bird was just fine! Well, except he was full of dog spit! lol! I put the bird on the neighbor's table in their yard and let the momma robin take care of it.

Golden retrievers have some of the kindest mouths ... probably to go with their kind hearts.

So great choice on the paw prints and bones! I think the birds will love all those pretty colors too. It will remind them of all the pretty spring and summer colors that they can look forward to ... hopefully sometime soon!

And you are pretty tough going out in that snow without a winter jacket! I got cold just looking at the picture! I am glad most of our snow has melted here in Wisconsin but I swear some giant piles of snow will last until July! Keep thinking spring!

I had a golden lab that was the sweetest dog. The birds could sit on his head and he wouldn't move. He was a great hunting dog too! I love retriever dogs!

What a great job you did. Looks better than most of mine for sure. Now I am having trouble deciding who you got your talent from. Was it mommy or daddy or maybe a combination of both. You feel like a friend also cause your daddy tells us about the things you find at garage sales. You are a good bargain hunter. Thanks for sharing.

Your birdfeeder looks so nice! I'm sure you will have lots of visitors as soon as it gets a little warmer. I like the dog theme it's so cheery!! Glad your dad helped you & you didn't get any hurt fingers. Nails can be a problem sometimes! You have lots of snow still. When I was about your age I packed snow together in block shapes & made almost an igloo, it didn't have a roof. But it was fun to play in & I got to use it for several months. I lived in South Dakota (you can look on a map- almost at Mn border) & it was cold until May or even 1 yr we had snow in June & some ice chunks in the lake so dad wouldn't let us go down the steps to it. You don't look cold, you look very happy with the Feeder Sandy gave you! Take a pic when birds are feeding from it for us to see! Jan

Well Hello there! So glad to MEET you! Your Daddy and Mommy always have wonderful things to say about you. How exciting to get a Secret Santa gift--and something you and your parents can help you with. You did a fabulous job on it. I love the "dog" theme. I have a 12 yr.old dog named Missy. She is half Springer Spaniel and half Bassett Hound. Sometimes if she doesn't eat all her food the birds come and snatch the kibble from her bowl! BUT, whatever you feed your birds, just make sure the bears can't get to it! They may think your feeder is extra special too! :-0
By the way, you have a beautiful smile! You look like both your Mom and Dad.

Very cool! I too like your choice of theme and colors. I also am glad that you posted here for us. I have five BOYS and I'm always eager to share others girls with them. If I had a daughter I'd want her to be like you!

We have a Norwegian Elkhound named Nicki and three cats. Grizwald is a big grey tom cat. My two blue eyed girls are Siamese. Truffles is a chocolate point and Flow Blue is a blue point.

Well, well, look at YOU, Miss Olivia, all decked out in your pretty little pink outfit. You are such a doll and you have a sweet pretty smile, too. You done a fabulous job on your birdhouse!! I like your bright colors you chose and did you do the paws and the dog bone yourself
or did you have to catch Marley and Gracie and paint their paws and let them do the paw prints for you!! Ha-Ha!! I can just see you chasing them down and trying to put paint on their paws! Your little brother,Ben, would probably like to do that so don't tell him what I said! You done such a great job and I know your little birdie friends are gonna love it! We have a little Chihuahua dog named Chili who owns us. He thinks he is the head of the family! HA-HA!!

Thank you for all of your nice posts. It made me feel really good inside. I loved how everybody was talking about their dogs and cats. I am going to paint a tea set for our garden like the ones on Alice in Wonderland. I might post them. Thank you. Sincerely, Olivia

I finally placed Olivia's birdfeeder in our yard, on a shepherd's hook in the rocks along our driveway. It looks so nice there, and she's so proud of it. (I am proud of her!) Had to share! Bear Hugs! Kirk

That looks like a great spot for it Olivia!! Trees nearby but not so close the birds can't see it. The bright colors should bring the birds very soon!! It will be fun watching the silly things birds do when they want to be 1st at feeder!! You will find out who the shy birds are & who chases the other birds away!! My mockingbirds have been chasing each other but they are good about sharing the bird bath. It might be fun to get a little notebook & write up all the birds you know by name. We would like to know what kind of birds you have in your area. We also have finches, doves,sparrows & occasionally crows. Lots of hummers but they don't use birdbath, they like me to spray rose leaves & they "bathe" on a leaf! They like sugar water in a feeder also. Jan

Olivia that is the perfect place for it. It looks great with the bright colors. You did a great job making it and Kirk you did a great job finding the perfect place to display it. Good luck keeping it full...we have decided here that pigs can fly...and they are eating the bird seed out of my feeders faster than I can get it filled.

Olivia, you did SUCH a wonderful job painting your bird feeder. I love the bright blue & what a great job painting the dog bones & paws!!! and they might help scare away any cats who like to hang around the bird feeders, like my cat, Monkeygirl. I hope when you're older you do become a vet. It takes a special person to care about animals like that. And you seem like a very special & talented young lady to me....Judy
