Your piece is marvelous! You have a very good eye for putting all the individual pieces together to make a whole. Are you just making one? You really need several of that style to glimmer in your yard.

You put the glass in the bottom of the mold on contact paper to hold it in place then pour cement. This totem is 4 ft. but I plan to make some smaller ones to add. i just get busy with other ideas & garden.

YUP! It is a mirrored shower door and when the sun hits it...ZOWIEEEE!!! I may have to light it up/spotlight it at night too!!!

That's awesome. I have lots of small pieces of stained glass and would love to make one. I can't quite figure out how you put your piece together. Is it possible to give me a bit more directions. Are the pieces soldered to eachother before you attach to the rod. A tutorial would be most welcomed. You are definitely very talented.

First decide how big you want your totem. This one is 4 ft high but you can make them any size. We use copper tubing so that may determine how tall it will be. Then you get your stain glass pieces & prepare them to be soldered. Next cut several pieces of glass to go down the front of the tubing (I made mine dark so you couldn't see the tubing) Soldered these together as these will be the front that you anchor too. These are attached by soldering pieces of glass on each side of tubing on the back & to the front pieces & to the copper tubing. DO NOT go all the way to the ground with your front glass, leave about 6-8 inches as you stick the totem into rebar that is in the ground. Anchor the glass at several places & make sure it is secure. Then just add you pieces to the front..play around with your color & add beads, suns, moon etc. Also contact pieces to each other from top to bottom as this makes it more secure. make you glass pieces different shapes as this gives the totem some character. Hope this helps. I would start small to med. because they can get hard to handle & you need a place to work.

WOW, I have read it several times and I'm trying to see it in my head. It's late and perhaps after a good nights sleep it will make more sense in the morning. The pieces of glass that go down the front...are they cut as wide as the copper tubing so you can attach. When you add the sides, is it forming a triangle around the tubing. The photo you posted does not show it very clearly. This may be more than I can handle without more photos or directions. Did you come up with this idea yourself or is there a link with more directions/photos.

realtorrose, my wonderful stain glass teacher thought this up so no pattern that I know of. All pieces must be foiled & tined before you start
1. Base pieces are 21/2-3 in x a foot or so depending on what size you are making. Do not go all the way to the bottom with glass. Leave about 6-8 as the totem will be inserted into rebar which is in the ground.
2. solder base pieces together & lay tube on back of the base pieces. Solder a piece of glass from one side the base to the tube & then do the other side. So will be sort of a triangle. These MUST BE attached securely as this is what holds the whole thing together. attach in at least 3 places
3. carefully turn the piece over, now the base pieces will be on top. you have to put something under one side to keep it from turning on its side. I used a small piece of wood
4. Now start laying your pieces on top & solder them to base & each other. Connect pieces horizontally & vertically as this makes the piece stronger. You can use nuggets, sun/moon, agates, etc., to make it interesting. I added beads & pieces sticking out front. DO NOT take glass all the way to the bottom as you don't want it to hit the ground.
5.last apply a nugget to top of tube so water can't get down into tube.
