Ever Plant Grocery Store Papaya Seeds?
Comments (10)I agree with Lisa, Papayas are 'easy'. I am growing papaya for 19 years, always from bought fruits (if I liked the flavor). The simplest method for me is to throw the seeds in a designated corner of the compost pile and let them sprout freely. After a while the strongest survive, and those do not mind being transplanted (learned that method from a Mexican friend) But I finally have found the best papaya I ever had. I got a seedling from Tony, the fruit is super sweet, fragrant with a beautiful orange color, and - it has no seeds! Today I was 'lucky', the fruit had 1 (one!) seed kernel in it. So brute, my suggestion is to toss them into an undisturbed area of where you want them to grow (with some compost) and just wait and let them fight it out. Good luck :-) Evelyn...See MoreEver grown seeds from grocery store bought peppers?
Comments (53)Just happened to come across this post. I'd say 95% of my peppers were grown from store bought fruits. They have been productive and haven't given me much problems except for when I brought them outside from indoor growing. One of my sweet bell peppers is fully loaded, it has 6 or 7 giant fruit on it and 1 of them is starting to turn colour now. Here is a picture of my scotch bonnet also grown from store bought fruit.... Unfortunately I didn't put it in a good location because it's surrounded by green beans and a couple corn plants and fava beans.... The good news is the fava beans are almost ready so they'll be gone within a week, two max....See MoreCarrie Mango....I really get it now !!!
Comments (31)I have seen mango trees in pots with fruit all over them!! Many of them were trees that were for sale in 15 gallon pots waiting for a home.... trees that are not of the dwarf size varieties.... I can't wait until the next mango season to see what happens with mine in the pots. BTW--- I took a seed from a ripe valencia pride mango germinated it over 4 days then stuck it in soil. I left for vacation the next day and came back 1 week later to an 8inch seedling. I could not believe how fast this seedling grew. I am leaving in the full sun with afternoon mixed sun/shade since it obviously likes it so far. Anyone have any thoughts on keeping shaded all day until it gets bigger or should I leave it like it is??...See MoreWhat did you buy this week at the grocery stores/stores
Comments (22)I still had lots of food in the house, but DH told me to go ahead and stock up since he'll probably be on the road for 5-6 weeks this time and the immediate future of our para-transit sytem is iffy at best right now due to budget cuts. (We won't know its fate until March 19. On the 22nd, we'll either have it or it's immediately gone.) So, hey, I'm no dummy. I stocked up. Trader Joes - greek yogurt eggs Cheddar cheese bacon almonds frozen haibut frozen green beans frozen mixed veggies frozen mixed peppers frozen naan butter canned diced tomatos quinoa mustard Regular Grocery Store bread Tortillas raisins black beans lentils canned tuna (my lucky day - albacore at .79 a can!) 5# chicken breasts (on sale at .99 a pound!) 2# pork bag of baking potaotes 2 cucumbers 3 onions 2 gree peppers # asparagas quart strawberries 1/2 gal milk canned mixed fruit # bananas # mushrooms garlic limes flour olive oil freezer bags pinto beans # coffee 2 boxes tea bags On the clearance shelf, we found organic pommegranate juice, V8, cherry juice and peanuts for $1.00 eash. The store isn't going to carry them anymore. So we got two each of those. And I had coupons for two free bottles of laundry soap that expire at the end of the month, so I got those now. Total - too much. OTOH, I'm set for another 4-5 weeks except highly perishable items like lettuce or milk. (Althogh I have some canned milk if I really need it.) That doesn't include the things we get for DH to take on the road as I consider his road supplies separate from my grocery budget....See Morenighthawk0911
