junk yard and sewing salvage fun

got these to put movement in some of my garden stakes I am planning. The tie back was to be to put on fence and hang a light birdhouse but DD says, oh that matches the mirror in the family room and we only need one there...we will see.

OK, got this and I am looking at it and wondering, hmm, what can I do with this...need the arms but Linda will find next time she goes. Had to censure the pic, lol. Need suggestions using this together and apart. I am the happy lady on the left.

Hi June, That is too funny how you made a naked mannequin look like a stripper. Too bad we couldn't have found a little fabric somewhere to cover her up with, LOL. She's staring right at you too. I've got a couple mannequins and thought about making a funny table from the leg section. Just stand them right side up or down and plop a table top on them. Upside down, they would make a good hat stand. You can sand and paint these things with primer, then any paint. The junkers might be interested in what you had to pay for her. You'll probably get loads of ideas for the torso and head. It was a fun day going with you. Linda

Hi June, good to see that happy smile on your face. With all that fabric--that was all you could find to dress your mannequin in???? Ha ha When I saw the pic, I figured you would be dressing her up and putting her in your garden on a bench or chair. Could also place her in a flower bed sort of bend over with a hoe. Need a long sleeve top since her arms are missing, but that could be pretty cute. Whatever you decide, have fun. Luvs

Wow, what great finds. I would love to have some of that fringe. In the first pick the fringe looks pink and white and in the second pic it looks green and red. Are they two different kinds of fringe? How do we get ahold of you for the fringe? I don't see an email address for you when I click on your "My Page." Like your stuff!! Of course daybed ends were really priced right!!! Will make nice benches!! The rusty blade is really cool!! I can see the face with the beard peeking out of your wood!! Is the ladybug made with "parts" from something else? Very unique,her head could be a bell (old style) back looks bit like a bell(kind that teacher had on desk with large metal part that moved) I can't get the show yet as when I tried to get Adobe flash it doesn't take. Think I have to disable something or other???? DD will have to do it for me!! You sure had a good trip with fun stuff to bring home. Guess I'll have to make it out to Antiques Fair in Saugus & see if there are any great deals, I got couple of things yr. ago when out there as people were quitting for some reason(just a couple)got seaglass for $6. for green & blue mix. I think it might have been tumbled and not really picked up on shore. Son's wife didn't care tho, she took half home to go with what she had actually found at the ocean by Morro Bay. There is 1 place that actually has shells & beach glass but they may "plant" it!!LOL Jan

Good for you, that looks great! It's come apart now but for a few years I had a little GH off the side of the house built of junk glass doors and visqueen. I really miss it. Could put my more tender plants and succulents in it for the winter and start veg seeds early in the spring. Such a warm cozy place to be on cold sunny winter days surrounded by green plants and flowers and fun to spend time in there when it's raining too. Hope you have fun with yours. My son sells scrap metal too. He finds some great junk and bless his heart he knows what mom likes. (as long as it doesn't weigh to much, I can usually keep it, lol)

Wow, didn't realize my little re-purposed table would draw attention from another GW forum. I used to real GJ before my garden accident although I'm not sure I ever posted (?). Thanks for stopping by! The pitcher plant actually was in response to a problem. Heavy rains were smashing the delicate seedlings growing on the table. Mother Nature designed pitcher plants perfectly for heavy rains. The leaves are shaped such that they carry water away from the pitchers. The pitchers are fragile & if they get too heavy with water they break off (see how they grow curved under the foliage from the leaf tip). So, I figured it would make a great umbrella for my table. It now gets enough water to keep the moss medium constantly moist but not hard enough to smash the little plants. Perfect! Kathy, actually I think they do have tables similar in your area. I'm just a few miles south...SE coastal CT. ;) This year's project is one of the two chairs that match the table. I'm curious now to see what grows on the vertical portion. In a few years, I'll have a living tea table. :) /tricia

I would cover her with hypertufa (SP?) and see if I couldn't make her look like one of those Greek or Roman statues with weathering. Your own personal Diana or Venus.

No, not a stripper, she has on a stylish So CA swimsuit, a bit more than a thong. Hey I have GSs that are 9, 9 1/2 and 10 1/2. Gotta be good here. Yes I will say that I paid $4 for it, thanks to Linda for giving the guy the eye to give me a good deal.

I thought about using as separate pieces...table legs for a plant stand. I looked at the picture and saw one of those older types of street lamp shades, the ones that were pleated circles. That would make a great tutu.

I am thinking about hypertufa quiltglo to make her a garden statue and maybe grow vines up her, lol. Hmm, wonder if either piece would make a good birdhouse, lol. I should be brave and mosaic it.

yard as is.....my neighbors would love that! But, they

Hi - go check out the mannequins being mosaiced on the StainedGlass&Mosaics forum -- even it's not your style, you'll be impressed. Great find and let us see how she appears in your garden.

Did you decide what to do with that extra person you picked up in Los Angeles, besides using her to get in the car pool lane lol? If you mosaic her and screw it up, you can just put something else over the mosaic.
We sold a bunch of junk at Pomona Mission swap meet today and took pictures of some of the fabric there. These fabrics run about $1 a yard, and the trims, several yards for $1. I posted them on my album. The swap meets are almost as good as LA. Linda
