glass insulator bush

I posted this in the gallery also. Can anyone please tell me how to fasten the glass insulators to the bush. Sangaree posted a picture of it, but I can't figure how the insulators are attached and also what were they anchored to. I love this site; found it last fall and have been collecting "stuff" since, made a penny BB and attempting a frog BB. Granddaughter said I had way too much time on my hands. Please advise on the construction of the insulator bush. thanks---sb

when you get to the site, there is a box on the left which lists Bottle Trees n Marble Trees---open that and the photo of the insulator bush is there along with lots of other bottle tree pictures. Hope this helps.sb

It's done as an aftermarket "storm window" type of install on top of the sealed insulated glass.

A lot of glass manufacturers supply their raw glass products to localized glass assemblers. This assembler is the outfit that turns the raw glass into insulating glass. They are the entity that provides the warranty that is passed through the neighborhood glass shop/installer. Often, the warranties are five years, but we have one source out of Denver that recently moved to a ten year warranty on glass within fifty square feet in size. As for water absorbing into the wood, I highly doubt that is the case. If it is, you can eliminate this excuse by the glass installer by simple applying a plastic sealer to the wood -otherwise known as polyurethane.

The answer is to have an optically pure, undistorted reflexion, and/or glass with no curviture (sp?). You will need to invest in high-end, premium insulated glass units. I believe PPG manufactures the cleanest float glass - based on my observations. Hope this helps.

You would need to remove the exterior glazing beads in order to remove the glass. The glazing beads degrade with age and could very likely break. You can get new ones from Andersen, if need be. The plastic plugs on the interior of the sash are for interior grilles to fit onto the sash.

I see what appears to be wire wrapped around the "trunk" of the tree.. I would assume the wire is bent up into the insulators--- but I'm no expert.

Maybe sangaree can pop in and explain.

My bet (just in looking at it) is that there must be some sort of peg drilled into the trunk/branch because they look very uniform. That is a fabulous tree. Must have to make me one of those!!

A great picture and thank you so very much for posting it. I hopefully will make one for this year; it will look great in the yard with my bottle trees.

That link is the Garden junk inspiration album that Karen aka Purplemoon has compiled for us mostly from pics posted on this site over the years. We can only hope that whoever made it sees this post and answers. it is striking. I tend to think the peg idea must be it, but then not sure what the wires are. Maybe it has lights!

It does look like it has lights wound around the posts. I bet it is awesome at night. It is gorgeous. I'm not all that familiar with the underside of the insulators to be able to figure out how they are attached.
