Monstera - Split leaf Philodendron ?

schutjer

I bought a large Monstera a few days ago for $45. It's 6' around and 4' tall. It's very root bound and has long 3-4' long roots outside the pot. I've heard some of the roots are just stucture roots and help anchor it. So, when I transplant it do I place these in the pot, or just cut them off?

The plant is very healthy and has no dead spots/leaves etc. I want to keep it that way.

The pot its in now is 12 deep by 13 wide at opening. What size pot should I transplant it to? How much fertilizing does it need, how often and what kind?

It's in our sunroom in the corner of windows facing west and south. How much watering does it need? before and after transplanting?

I'll post pics in a few days. But, I want to get a pot tomorrow, so any info asap would help :)

thx

Sharon
