yellow marble bowling ball

I finished my newest creation. I am really happy with how this one turned out. I found out grouting is not the way to go for half marbles. I couldn't get the grout to be smooth and look nice so I did another ball and spray painted it a light yellow then glued the half marbles on it. I like it way better(-: Hope you enjoy too(-:

Oh...Yes..I love it....I usually plant a lot of yellow in my garden. That is so bright and cheerful.

I'm thinking, I'm thinking!!! After attaching the pics to the marbles and then using the GE Silicone II to attach them to the BB, did you grout the whole thing? I don't think it's a problem of attaching the pics to the marbles, I think it's that moisture can get under the marbles and destroy the pics. I would think that after doing the whole thing, let it set for a day or two to really dry the glue, then use a good outdoor grout to "seal" it all and that should take care of any moisture ruining the pics. Daisy - yep, it's a real one - about 14 lbs before glass, grout, etc. It's on my sister's front porch (southern exposure), under the overhang part of the porch. That should give it some protection. This will be it's first winter outdoors and I have cautioned her to cover it or, preferably, bring it in if there's prolonged freezing temps or ice/snow expected. Fortunately, she's in West TX, so that doesn't happen too often. With regard to the weight, I made it in 2 sections so it would be easy to transport 300+ miles and did the final assembly on site...v-e-r-r-y carefully placed it in position to be sure the silicone didn't slip.

Materials Needed: Old Bowling Ball 650 Half Marbles or glass gems(approx. 6bgs of 12oz marbles) 1 Tube Silicone Glue (GE Silicone II, clear, outdoor) Cereal Bowl (or something to hold the work in progress) Wood Putty (optional) Outdoor Spray Paint (optional) Assembly Steps: Using the Silicone glue work in sections to glue the half marbles in place. The glue will hold almostimmediately so place the marbles carefully. It is best to do the top half of the BB and then let it dry overnight (in cereal bowl) before turning the BB over and glueing the bottom portion. When doing the bottom portion you can either leave the finger holes open or see below for filling instructions. Place in the Garden and enjoy the shimmering beauty you just created!! Optional Steps: If your BB is black and you prefer another color, simply use an outdoor spray paint to achieve the color of your choice. Spray the BB well and let dry throughly before you glue on any marbles. If you wish to cover the finger holes in the BB, use wood putty to fill them and let it completely dry before adhering the marbles to that area.

I have seen quite a few bowling balls since I started visiting this forum. I have to say, your yellow marble BB is the one I like the best. It looks great with the daffodils. Thanks for sharing!

Really beautiful,you did a great job. I made one of those myself,I painted mine white,and glued clear w/yellow half marbles on it,lol,it isn't nearly as yellow as yours,yours is prettier.

Gorgeous yellow BB. Love the idea of painting the ball first cause you're right, unless you're into that grouting stuff, it's a messy process - had to put mine under slow running water to smooth it out, and be extra careful the marbles didn't fall off.
