started off the New Year right....LOL

Yesterday I stopped in Goodwill to drop some clothes off, and boy did I hit the jackpot. LOL. Sure made for a great start to the New Year!

I just can't resist pretty glass pieces, for inside or outside. And finding these two at Goodwill had me ecstatic! I paid $7 for the purple and green vase, its 16" high and VERY heavy glass. The pedestal dish was $5, its 14" across. Both would be beautiful in the sun, in my garden, but I think these might be staying in the house.

The wood rabbit is very heavy and 12" long, 8" high. The cobalt bowl is also really heavy, and is 6" by 8". Its going to be the base piece for my next cobalt totem. The colorful vase is 8" high and will go really good with other pieces in my Teapot 'n Gnome Garden.

Great haul, woman! You did hit the jackpot! I'm the same way with pottery...can't resist dishes and such! Love the rabbit and the colorful piece for your teapot garden...is the rabbit going there? If so, needs to be WHITE! LOL!

I'm not really encouraged my next week's weather predictions. It looks okay for the central & southern Rockies but too cool and rainy up here: Those are predicted rainfall amounts during the early part of the week. We have snow melt flooding of the rivers right now but, that isn't my gardening concern. The amount of cloud cover and cool temperatures may make hardening-off of plants from the greenhouse difficult. High temperatures on thru the week show that we will just break 60F for highs. The biggest problem for me is that the greenhouse is overflowing!! Overflow means - overflow. I need to get things outdoors or they are left in the shade under benches or in the garage. Having the older tomatoes in the unheated tunnel last night has me on pins & needles this morning. It was colder than predicted & windier than predicted: with 35F & gusts above 25mph . . . It is the love we have for them and the love they have for us, both without reservations, that make losing them so hard. A family member is missing disrupting our routine and leaving empty space. Now who will hear our secrets, comfort us and celebrate with us? I feel your loss and cry with you but I also know that you have a big heart with room for a new furkid. Let yourself cry and grieve and you will know the right time for an additional love. Missy will never be forgotten. If you find that you need a "kitty fix", visit an adoption center or shelter and just visit with some of the orphans. Hugs to you.

I got rid of one I had, so maybe shouldn't comment since I don't have much experience with it. Just wanted to say that if you had sludge on top (..."Removed the top half of sludge from the pot"...), all of the potting mix was probably too wet and should be replaced. If top few cm are wet, it is usually worse as you go deeper. I see lots of damage that looks like rotting, that makes me think there isn't enough drainage or you keep watering it too much and too often. While I don't think around 65*F would be too low in spring, combined with wet soil it could cause some problems. It is best to have few drainage holes in the pot, and very well draining mix that should dry up between watering. It is a cactus after all (Hylocereus undatus = white fruit, H. costaricensis = pink fruit, or H. megalanthus = yellow fruit) and should not sit in soggy substrate. I grew mine in very gritty mix without bark (just grit, coarse perlite and smaller amount of turface). Reason I got rid of mine was that it grows too big, and it is quite prickly :). And from what I read, they need long periods of really warm weather in order to fruit. I am in colder zone, but don't think yours is warm enough either. Perhaps GH would help? IIRC, fruit sets after 30-50 days after flowering. It needs nocturnal pollinators (bats or moths), and hand pollination may not work with some sp. So you may get it to flower (it needs to be mature enough), but fruit may be questionable. I know few ppl here grow them and have success with flowers and even fruit - ( they are in warmer zones than yours and am not sure if fruit ripens for them). Hopefully some of them will help...

I'vebeen putting pictures everywhere. I just reduced a mess of plants. Now I have more room for the ones I really want to keep and play with. I'm excited to have more room. I need more pots and medium. Goodbye, large pot of Hahnii! Goodbye, Gold Flame. (I kept a plant and offset.) I reduced others, as well. I'm going to make a big pot of this Hahnii. Stush's Asahi just gets better and better. So does Silver Frost.

You did start your 2009 junkin' right! Everything is so pretty! I love that green and purple vase. And don't let me near that rabbit because I'd slip him in my purse - heavy or not! lol! You sure hit the jackpot! I can't wait to see what you will do with them!

luna, you'd need more than a purse to fit this bunny in.

Once in a blue moon...or should I say PURPLE, I really find some incredible things at my GW. Often when I'm looking at stuff on shopgoodwill.com, I see so many terrific items and think why not HERE?? Then along comes a day like this one, and I'm thrilled to pieces.

I'll have to finish up my new cobalt totem, and then figure out where the heck to put it.
The little colorful vase wants to go in my Teapot n Gnome Garden, which is about full now! I need to find more things to make something of it. Actually, I believe I have another one of those plates from Dollar Tree somewhere, that I used on the first Teapot Totem, with these same colors. Hope my memory is right in thinking that, LOL.

Wish all y'all COULD be here and go junking with me.
Maybe you should buy or rent the house across the street from me as a TIME SHARE....LOL...what fun we could have then!

Karen you had a really graet day. What a find esp the pedestal dish. Love it. I hit GW yesterday too. Will post pix after all are dry. But did find another lite brite in great condition for my GD to have at home. Had pegs and pic included. All for $2 and a little cleaning.

Toomuch, I seldom plan ahead. I see it, I like it, I buy it. Then I wonder what the heck I'm going to do with it or where I'm going to put it. LOL. I wish I had a plan at times.

NM and Marlene, just put your list in the junk train box and maybe I'll get one of you. That would be fun. I LOVE finding stuff for people. None of my local friends nor any of my family likes this sort of thing at all. sigh.
All of you here are my only GJ connection. I'm just glad I found you, alone was sure depressing! (Especially when others think you may be a bit nuts, LOL.)

Karen, I do believe you have a junk angel watching over you and guiding you to the "GOOD STUFF"!! Those glass pieces are 2 die for! That pedestal vase loks like it came out of an antique shop, just beautiful. You got a cute new bunny there, too! I know you will have a lot of fun with your new treasures!!

Karen, so glad you posted this.....finds are beautiful. But I am glad you posted cause I thought I was the only one who dropped off bags at the back door and drove around front to spend money. Told my DD I had to support them any way I could. LOL. June
