I would think that smaller pieces would sell better right now. I would also sell Milk and Bread in my booth, LOL!!! That's all some people can buy if you watch the news.

I think the forty dollar TOTEM is out but the $10.00 garden stake or bird house would sell. You see what I am saying? This was according to a recent gaden junk ect. sale in my area in the Fall.

I had a craft show this fall and it stunk...only the small stuff sold, so I agree on the above comments. I also think if it has a useful function or multiple uses it will sell better. And in times like these, don't forget clever merchandising of your booth....sometimes that makes all the difference.

Just came back from and indoor flea market around my area. The thing I like the most that I got was a small vase with a sunflower on it. .48. I bought some glass(gona try a totem)to put back. Mom bought 3 floor style vases(actually one turned out to be a wooden candle holder). They sell real well in the shop after we sometimes repaint and add nice flowers...

golden...when I hit the antique malls/booths, I always looks for Jewel Tea dishes (I collect) Autumn Leaf pattern and also for Heisey Lariat elegant glassware. I like to buy a piece or two each yr. (anywhere from $20 on up). So I think glassware is always a good item.

Other things I look for are stereograph cards...I like to buy one for wherever I visit (usually up to $5 each). And I'm always on the look-out for pottery...not specific mfgr. but just what I like...for outdoors or in.

Another thing I look for is things like wood drawers from treadle sewing machines...I bought 2 before Christmas and used them as gifts... got them for $6 each (or something in that area). One of my friends lost her house and almost everything in the tornado this Spring so I used the drawer as an antique sewing box and filled it with needles, pins, some old sewing notions and a good pair of scissors. I also use these boxes here at home in my computer/craft room for stamp pads, ink, supplies...love them!

Of course, we're retired now...but I still can spend some money on these trips...and whenever we go, we hit the antique stores and flea markets. I think people are still buying but not spending as much! Love it! Jeanne S.

NM perhaps I wasn't clear because antique malls are GREAT JUNK places and especially garden junk. Many of us find useful items to turn into totems, birdbaths and Plates to break for mosaics. SOIf you want to police this forum well,,,, I can think of waaay more off topic items than this.

OMG Jeanne, at the FM i go to they have all kinds of Jewel Tea. My sister has a huge set of it that was her DH's mom's in the leaf pattern....

I like this topic ! ( Who cares where it is ! ) Goldenpond -- you buy stuff at antique stores to break and make crafts ??? Isn't that against the rules ?? LOL
I feel guilty if I buy anything "old" for crafts! Well -old JUNK maybe - but nothing good. I ooh & ahh at antique stores ... but I'll admit - I'm too scared to use anything for garden stuff !

I tend to look for out of the ordinary things that catch my eye. I love things with a history that I can repurpose in some way. Glass for garden junk items, buckets, drawers, suitcases, trunks that can be used for storage ( I live with three kids in a 900 sq ft cottage with only one closet in the whole place). I also have been looking for cool old things to display as decor in the house and my glass studio. I get a lot of inspiration on the different forunms on here. I see something I like and try to come up with the components to make something similar.

I like weird quirky stuff like folk art, turned wood and strange figurines. I tend not to go over $20. Here is something I found at a TS that is a good example of the weird stuff I like...

I guess I'd call it a bird tree. Each bird and the tree are made of wood. Not sure what kind of wood but it is both very light and dark. You know someone handmade this thing. I'm sure there isn't another one around like it. It's made of wood and just weird enough for me to like!

leveta ... small world, uh? I've been collecting about 15 yrs. ...my DH & I bought some of his Mom's Jewel Tea dishes at the estate auction...and I've been collecting ever since! It is fun to look for something specific and even lots more fun when you find a great piece! Thanks for sharing...wished I lived closer!

smicker...sounds intriguing to have a glass studio...but I remember seeing how those wonderful stepping stones you made with your sons...just awesome! I look for things like you do...great fun to Garden Junk!

toomuchglass...sometimes you find a "steal" at antique booths...and use it outside anyway! I've done that with those "wood pulleys" ... then hung 2 small corriaged buckets from the pulley in my gardens...needed watered daily tho. So, keep lookin'...there's something out there you can put outside or "break!"

I think we can buy become owners and do what we want with any product....even if they are worth a lot. but it is good when our friends here tell us, think twice.

I have been buying blue glass bottle and vases for the yard and for my DD kitchen.

I think the post is to ask what we buy at craft shows and such. Also what we make and sell. Of course she means Garden Junk category.

Yes,I always find great inspiration there but we live in a tourist area. Feb-Narch is our SEASON.Wouldn't all you snowbunnies love to visit us and take in a few yard sales while sweating?
Anyway that leaves the summer as sale months for most Antique Malls down here. Especially if there is no air Conditioning.Remember Antique Malls do not have to be Antiques Only.Each booth is different because each person stocking it has different STUFF. Today I saw a fountain,a Leather Jacket,Bird houses,Candles,Cowboy boots, watering cans to name a few .One woman was buying cat statues for two dollars each.
Also and best of all,,,,,many have Scratch and Dents !
Those are perfect for mosaic lovers! I would never destroy a perfectly good Blue Willow plate but if its chipped and 50 cents I sure will! They make fantastic mosaics,
If you all havent been to a few Antique and Collectable malls check them out!

Your bird art piece is very nice!!!!!!!! I would be too distructive if I had one. I would remove all of the birds and attach each one to the top of a cedar 'oiled finished' bird house that would match it. The left over branch would be converted to a sling shot to chase Hubs around. LOL

Cool! I hope you do well.I was just out in the garage digging out my treasures to be hosed off and priced for someone else to take home and display in their yard.
RR lanterns, watering cans, Old kerosene cans,bird cages.
A HUGE and I mean HUGE basket I intend on using for quilts or magazines or other things to display. Got two shuttered Bifolds to make shelving from the Habitat Home store.It is chock full of REALLY great stuff too.
twomonths I often find my blue bottles there. quite reasonable and unique.
When I first began I shared a booth with a friend.She told me not to get hung up on just buying antiques because there are alot of people who decorate with other type stuff.
I have taken that to heart but don't pass up a good deal on antiques if I see them.
