More fairy houses

I've been on a roll and having fun with these. I don't want to clog up the board with lots of pictures, so you can click the link below to view more. The one I am posting is my secret santa gift from Karen (purplemoon). I remodeled it into a fairy house! Hopefully she doesn't mind! Here's a before and after.

Arlene, I went to the site for your pictures and just love all of these! I have about 20 birdhouses in the garage set to mosaic, but I just have to select one out to do my first fairy house. Thank you for the inspiration!

Arlene, the houses are awesome!! I must try to do one. I also saw your grandchild-just adoable- My 3rd grandson arrived Nov. 5, 2007. Don't ya just love it when you get to babysit and then you can take all kinds of pics.

This is very interesting. I suspect he tried to sell his formula to some big company but was not successful. (Imagine computers or tv sets that looked like fairy houses on the outside, lol.) Sure would be useful to us crafters, if its not too toxic. If it looks good, maybe we could order ingreadients regionally and split the cost (EG if any one else in NH VT or MA wanted them I could be in such a group.) I guess I don't object to paying for the formula through his dvd's. When you invent something and spend a lot of time, naturally you want to get paid. Right now I have too many other projects and winter is coming, but maybe in the spring... Kathy

VEry nice. I like the mushrooms too. I wonder if they would be hard to make? I just bought a biggish one at sa for 50 cents. I was thinking of fairy houses while there cuz I saw an abandoned bird house with 3 openings. Not priced yet though. kathy

They really are magical! You've been spending your snowed in time well. I love the little gardens and the fawn and mushroom do add a lot. I used to make and sell terrariums many (could it really be 30?)years ago. I made them in those light green wine bottles with the fat bases - Almaden or some such name. My parents drank it and saved me the bottles. Mom just told me the other day that she still has some in the basement, so now that I've gotten my bottle cutter from dh for Christmas I'll have to go get them, lol. It was hard to get the moisture level right in a bottle with a tiny opening, so I think jars are probably a better route. Good luck! kathy PS I wish I'd known you all back then! Your fairy houses are very cute Arlene, as is your grand baby! Gosh, I don't think I could alter gifts someone sent especially for me, I'm much too sentimental to do that. Luvs

Yor fairy houses are too cute...love all the different stuff you use on them..very creative. As for altering a gift...why not? It's certainly better than re-gifting...I know none of us have ever done that :o)...I know the old woman who lives here did it once... a friend of the giftee saw it, & was miffed, to say the least! I made the old woman promise to stay out of the gift trunk..but who knows what she gets into while I'm at work! giggles...*elaine*

Thanks all - it has become an obsession for me, it's that fun.

nmgirl - I collected the fungus in our woods - just picked it off fallen trees and dried it for a week or so.

As far as the grandbaby, I'm just hoping I don't ruin his vision with all the camera flashes! Poor little guy! But I just can't help myself.....

Arlene - Your fairy houses are just awesome. Where do you find the thin flat rocks that you use for the walkways and steps? Probably out in the yard, huh?

adina - I picked up a bag of these at a garage sale awhile back knowing they'd come in handy for something. I think they are pieces of broken shells, like beach glass, only shells.

Of course...shells! They look like shells now that you mention it. What a great idea. I had some, but I am not sure I still have them....better go through my stash in the shed. :)
