long lasting vegetable/plant tags

Every year I mean to post this and always forget. I have 300+ varieties of Daylily's and each has a permanent 2"X4" plant stake. Indelable markers seldom last a year in the elements before they become too faded out to read.

I use enamel paint pens which last on the tags three years before having to be re-done. Walmart sells them in packs of 5 colors (in the craft Dept.) but many craft stores sell individual pens.

There is nothing more frustrating that trying to read an extremally faded out tag. I grow 150+ tomato plants each year so I use a lot of garden tags. Now I just need a method to decypher my tag abbreviations. I am always sure I will remember it and then I have to rack my brain three months later trying to figure out my "code". I have vowed to keep a master list but you all know how that goes!
