Its cooled off here and Ive cut back accordingly but suspect too much water might be the problem. Iam not using FP or protekt anymore as we are almost into the dormancy period. I watered the heck out of it the other day to ensure it was draining and its seems to have responded with faster yellowing. Was thinking that its almost impossible to overwater the gritty mix but maybe thats the problem. They look lovely! However, be careful of the ones you've planted in the larger Oyama Planters. They are way overpotted (especially the one on the right) and could easily drown because the small root system cannot absorb the water fast enough. AVs should never be potted more than one size up at a time. Once my semi-minis hit a 3" pot, I just whack off half the rootball and place back in same planter with fresh soil. (You should have seen the look on Mom's face when I did that to her Milky Way Trail! LOL) You can fix the overpotted AVS one of two ways: Pot back down into the pots they came in (it was the soil you needed to replace ~ the pots were fine); or, if you have them, place in three-inch or smaller pots. Remember: Underpotting is seldom fatal; overpotting usually is. But, again, lovely, lovely! Linda

Follow-up, 13 days after re-pot. Unfortunately my tree is in trouble again! Less than a week after repotting, the veins of many of the leaves started to turn yellow. The yellow then spreads outwards, and the leaf drops off (see photos in the link below). It looks like the little tree will lose most of its leaves :-( Searching through the forum, I found a thread from a year ago where Mike had a tree with exactly the same symptoms - did you ever find out what was wrong? I hope your tree survived! Do you think it is just a stress response (I pruned some of the roots when I repotted)? It also developed flower buds, which I know can be a sign of stress (I removed most of these to help the plant concentrate strength). I have had it in the shade since the repot and it has only been watered on the day of the repot and once since. I haven't checked the pH of the new soil, but I made it as per instructions (including lime, although perhaps I didn't include enough?). Would it be worth checking the pH? On the positive side, I have noticed a few tiny new leaves forming at the end of a couple of the branches (but not lower down on the branches). Do you think the tree will drop all it's leaves and then recover? Or is it a goner? Hello! I've been lurking and learning for some time, but now I want to jump in with a question. I bought this Ficus benghalensis in early June and re-potted it almost immediately. A month later, it was pushing roots out of the drainage holes, so I potted it up. Yesterday I spotted more roots heading for freedom and I'm wondering if I should pot up again, do a full re-pot, or leave well enough alone until spring. For reference, it spends its time in a large south-facing, slightly obstructed window and is in a standard potting mix (FoxFarm Ocean Forest, which I've always had good luck with, but I now know might not drain as quickly as would be ideal). I water when the pot feels light, which is about every 10 days or so in my cool, humid climate. It has been growing slowly and steadily - each of the two trunks has put out two new leaves since I bought it. I would love to take advantage of its youthful exuberance and see more growth, but I want to do what's best for its overall health.
