I have a memorial service to go to in the morning. For the mother of a guy I went to school with. He was married for a few years to one of my life long friends. She lives out of state now so I don't see her. I hope she will be there too. They are still good friends.

His mother fell last week , broke her hip. She was at the airport getting ready to fly out to her other son's home for Christmas.

They had to do surgery. She did wake up from surgery and passed on Christmas day.

So I made one of the angel feather ornaments for him.

Here is what I am making today for a group ornament project: Angel Ornaments Use the clear glass ball ornaments - I use the 3" balls and they seem to work real well. Take the little cap with wire loop for the hanger off. Cut a white feather to fit inside the ornament so that it will stand up in the middle when you put the top back on. Sprinkle a small amount (maybe 1/4 to 1/2 tsp.) of gold glitter in the ornament. Put the top back on. I tie a pretty gold bow around the top of the ornament and attach a piece of card stock with the angel feather poem on it. Sometimes I make the ornaments using pastel colored feathers and I match the glitter to the feather, or I use the angel dust - very fine iridescent glitter. They look pretty also. ...in answer to a question about what kind of feathers were used...The feathers are inexpensive. I think there are about 100 of them in a package for maybe $1.99?? They are very flat in the package when you buy them. All I do is clip the very top off at the point where the feather starts sticking together and is not as fluffy. Then I cut the bottom of the feather off also, at the point where the feather just fits into the ornament and the "stem" of the feather is still stand up in the opening of the ornament when you put the brass top back on. This makes the feather stand up in the middle of the ornament. They sell the feathers in packages of all white or pastel colors. I use both when making the ornaments. If you don't have any boxes to put the ornie in you can use a clear bag add a ribbon to the top of the bag and attached the card to that. It's from your guardian angel that God assigned to you, and fell out in her struggles as she protected you. Nevermind! I found some clearish balls at TJ Maxx; actually they have small frosted flowers on them here and there, and I found the feathers at michaels. This is what mine look like, hope this is how their supposed to look, they're really pretty.

What an awful tragedy for your friends! But what an incredibly uplifting and heartfelt gift from you to ease the pain and sorrow. I am sure they will love, not only the gorgeous ornament, but the love and thoughtfulness behind it. It is beautiful!

That is such a beautiful ornament, and how special it will be for your friend. I'd have loved being given such a thing when I lost my Mom. What a treasure!

Tomorrow will be a tough day, hopefully your dear friend will be able to come and you can spend time with her.

Guess what...Someone from another forum saw this...(I also posted it at crafts and at the Kitchen Table...she emailed me and wanted to order one...

She lives about an hour from me and is going to drive in to Omaha (that's just across the river from me about 10 mins) and come pick it up.

I agreed to a price...but I think it is way to low..just barely covers the cost of materials.

I don't know how you are supposed to figure your selling price...But I agreed anyway..She has a friend who's husband passed away just before Christmas and wants to give her one.

I'm thrilled that someone wants one. lol

you have a wonderful heart to create this for your friend. the story reminds me that my parents are very up in age and when God calls them i will be loosing 2 loving parents. crap lol now im getting tears in my eyes. where is my mischif farie or is it fairy?

That feather ornament is gorgeous and I love the message with it. I am sure it will be treasured.

I worked in a hospital gift shop and we priced by cost X 2. So if it costs you $8 to make it then you could charge $16. It is definetly worth at least $15 but I think you could go higher if you wanted. It is a really wonderful keep sake.

pattico, where did you find your ornament? it is more egg shaped then the ones I see and where did you find the hanger.. I love this one and I have two neices who I dearly love and they are my departed sister's daughters and I would love to make them each one of these for Christmas. I have made Guardian angel ornemants.. but not like this one.. I love this one and it is soooo special.

Honeybear...I found the egg shape at Mangelson's, a local Hobby/Craft store. But I've also made one in a large round ornament too..and it works just a well.

The stand was just a plain brass I bought at Hobby Lobby I think. I wanted a place to hang the card so I wrapped brass wire around the stand then made a loop to hang the tag.

I am so glad that I came across this web site and found your ornament, it is so beautiful, and the poem is so very touching. it almost brought a tear to my eyes, to read the poem,because my husbands mother pasted away early yesterday morning, from a long suffering battle with Alzheimer's. The gift you had given to a friend, was very kind and thoughtful of you and a very loving thing to do.

I also send my prayers to your husband's family.
My Mother had Alzheimers, so I understand what it
is like to have a family member with that.
