Canary melon seeds floating

I read the FAQ on saving melon seeds and wanted to try it on this melon. I washed all the gel off the seeds vigorously and did the float test. Not one of them sank. Does that mean they are all bad? How do I find a melon with good seeds if that is the case?

Update...

I left them in water overnight and about half of them sank. Are these viable?

If they were from a ripe melon - ready to eat - then yes they are viable. If from an unripe melon, then likely not. Seeds need to be mature before harvesting.

I have 4 Canary melon seeds left from last year. I have no idea how long melon seeds remain viable but if you want to try them you can have them for postage.

Lots of Canary melons out there. A type of Spanish melon, originally a long season like the Honeydew and Ananas types. Today many new hybrids are avaiolable with maturity in the same ranges as cantaloupes. Usually white fleshed, less juicy than a Honeydew type. I would guess that , cut some open you can tell that way also put a few between some damp paper towels keep moist in a shallow dish or pan I put mine on top of fridge they should sprout in 3-5 days
