eew and yuck and shiver

I think I have mice in my house! My first clue was finding a banana which had been chawed on. No mouse poop as evidence, just tooth marks on the banana! THEN, about a week later an apple on top of a whole bowl of apples on the counter had chew marks on it. Again, no mouse poop anywhere.

So, we put out traps. Caught nothing. Then poison, no chews on the poison. Found no mouse poop anywhere.

Then, my phone stopped working only to discover the phone line in the house had been chewed through. I'm starting to imagine Twilight Zone music! Next, were tiny chew marks on the sealed plastic container I keep dog food in. STILL NO mouse poop. Next, the cord on our Wii was chewed through.

I am so totally grossed out by rodents, but this had me even MORE upset because I can't be sure it's a mouse. I mean what mouse leaves no droppings behind?

So, this morning, I saw three mouse poops on my kitchen floor. Talk about being creeped out! So, hubby moved out everything in the kitchen and we cleaned the kitchen like crazy.

We discovered the drawer under the futon couch in the kitchen is mouse central. Hubby found a dead mouse and tooth marks on one of the poison cakes...BUT do mice come in just ONE??? Or am I likely to have a whole nest of the little buggers hiding somewhere in the house?

Honestly, bugs, spiders, worms, etc. NOTHING bothers me like MICE! I want to move out right now! What's your best mouse eradication recipe??? I NEED it!!!

aww, i'm so with you there. i live in the country and i'm OVER IT. mice,rats,snakes,brown recluse, black widows, possums, coons........sigh. my latest is centipedes. i want to move.
the blue poison in the bags that the mice chew through. i use that in the attic, and no where else because i have puppies now. the mice are supposed to eat it and look for water, drink and die. i think it does work.Twin has found some dead mice in her sink after setting out poison. my dog Mamie catches lots of rats and mice, she's part rat terrier or fiest or whatever you call them in your part of the world, lol.
my problem is centipedes, i'm about to make a new post on that.

Been there!!!
We had been gone to Indiana for a couple of months.
came home, Opened the carport (enclosed carport,
storage for lumber, and cabinets and 2 saws at the
back end) and could smell the mice....We set traps and caught 24 in the next 7 days. They were NOT in the
house, however. On the other end there are always mice
in the Indiana cabin when we (now just me) go
there. But the worst was the time in Indiana when the coons got in and tore up a lot of stuff! In the summer
there would be dry beans, cake mixes etc left in the metal cabinets--we would be back in 2 months after all. They managed to open the cabinets and everything in it was on the floor! It was a MESS!.....It's on Raccoon creek after all......LOL

I hope everyone is safe and sound in the middle of these storms! As some of you know, I work for a multinational company and we have offices all over the world. Yesterday there was a worldwide mail warning that our MontrÃ©al office was running half gas due to the storm. They were warning about possible delays in dealing with projects, since a part of the workforce hadn't been able to get to work. I later talked to one of my fellow Project Managers there and he told me it hadn't been fun to skid all the way to work! I cannot imagine enduring such thing! Finally got my box out today, or should I give my hubby credit as he actually posted it for me today. Things are crazy as my oldest is getting married this Saturday and I volunteered to do a few projects here at home to help out. Why, why, why????? I made cookies for the cookie table and chocolate covered pretzels for the candy table, (a tradition in the area where they are getting married). Then I agreed to make little paper flowers that glue around the top of a toothpick to fancy them up. Again, why, why, why?????? The toothpicks still need to be finished and then a ton of ironing, and then the packing, and then the gardens need to have a little tlc. All before we leave Thursday morning. My husband and I did treat outselves to some dance lessons so we could be prepared. I have never really cared to dance and part of it was we really didn't know what to do on the dance floor. Can't say as we do now but at least we can fake it. Here is the DC for the box 03080660000088961649. Of course, it got hot the past few days and I wish I had gotten it mailed sooner. I am hoping for the best for the plants I sent. I did send extra so the chances would be better. Hope Amy likes it all.

I do honestly think it's entirely cultural. If we are raised thinking something is gross or regarded with disdain, chances are it's going to stay that way until that pattern of thinking is changed. Look at tomatoes...no wait, that example might not work here...early colonists thought they were POISONOUS, not simply gross. I'll come up with something later... Protein is protein, and like John D pointed out, we already consider some of this group a culturally acceptable delicacy. Why not the others? Granted, there are some that for obvious reasons would never make the cut, like your stinkbugs and so on. So what invertebrates DID you try, John? How do you choose the right wine? :) I myself attempt to be objective...my motto towards foreign foods is "try it, then see if you hate it." Not my husband. If it didn't have feathers or hooves he isn't touching it. I guess if I KNOW I'm about to eat something with yuck factor, that's somehow better than being caught offguard and getting surprised by it. Hand me a locust and say, "try these. they're good" but don't have it camouflaged in the soup. Doesn't make logical sense, but that's how it works for me, and even then I'm sure there would be times my sense of adventure would fail me. Personally, if we could ever get past the icks, I think there is a lot of potential with invertebrates, given the problems we are facing with the drive towards beef, beef, and more beef and the great amount of resources needed to support such a trend. Jannie...some of the things they do with insects on that Fear Factor show...never seen it but heard lots about it from friends who all say the same thing: they watched it and thought of me. I should take that money and run. Treebeard, we have to leave the chocolate thingy out of this. I would eat a crescent wrench if you dipped it in chocolate.

The dinner/supper thing became a rural/city thing partly, as Lily said, when the husband didn't come home at midday, but even before then among the upper crust who partied late and slept late. Dinner (the big meal and its name) moved from sometime past noon to 4:00 p.m., then 6:00 p.m., then 8:00 p.m., leaving supper to be one of those late at night things, taking the place of evening tea, which used to be served at 9:00 p.m. I lived in Mexico for awhile with the city very much still on a siesta based day. Breakfast was in the morning, work/school was from 9:00/10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., everyone went home for dinner. Work/school recommenced at 4:00 p.m. and went to 6:00-8:00 p.m. Supper was served between 9:00 and 10:00, and parties started anytime from 10:30 p.m. on. Coffee/tea breaks split the work hours. It's not nearly as productive a schedule, but much more civilized.

Well I sort of live in the country and we found that rabbits had chewed the wiring in the pick up engine. I like bunnies so we cleaned out garage to put both cars in. What we have been getting lately is pincher bugs, hate them. And our puppy Champ barking at some type of rodent my husband says if it was a rat it was really big so we are thinking possum. But Champ scared it away. Good Boy Champ!

We've had mice - if they weren't so dirty & destructive - they'd be cute ! Yeah - I'm weird .We had some build a nest in our sofa bed couch . We sat on there - slept on there - didn't know they were there til we opened it . It was Mickey Mouse's whole family ! They WEREN'T CUTE THEN.

WE are going through mice issues as well. NEVER had to deal with it here....but, stupid me---when I decided to start just throwing my produce scraps directly into the garden--well that just exascerbates the problem. Was out watering the planters around my (empty) pond and two pop out from under the rocks that edge the planter border---and scurry up the side and back of the pond. Also saw one scurry from my patio over to the pond and then last night watered my backyard flowerbed and one jumped out to scurry over to the patio! SOO, hubby got some mouse traps and loaded them with pnut butter. He checked them this morning. One the pnut butter was licked clean but not tripped! and another is missing! I don't think my dog got to it because we locked her in her yard last night....sooo, just waiting and hoping. I'm not a cat person but we MAY have to get a cat...and OUTDOOR cat! ugh....pray for us...and as far as I can tell, none in the house.....

Hope you are having success is eradicating your rodent issue. Still so far none in the house...I'm making sure to keep all doors and screens closed (agh, it's hot)...hubby is masting it though! This morning got a big fat daddy mouse. Tonight got two babies in the same trap! 3 down a million more to go...and found out too that the next door neighbor has them in his house....He just got divorced and the wife took the two mouse/gopher/bird hunting cats with her. He's using the sticky trays. I don't like those because it's not instant. They do look cute so instant is good in my book. ...hang on there....

I just feel I have to give an update...because we have caught about 6 since Saturday! this morning got another 2fer in the same trap! BUT, like I said, a million more to go. It feels good to be successful at eradication! and now we too have to deal with gophers. We just MAY have to get a cat....and I so don't like cats....

New here - but had to comment on this one. We had the pleasure of hosting a roof rat early this spring....gross!

Thank goodness we found him before he brought in his family. He chewed all of the hoses on my dishwasher looking for water, the hoses on my refrigerator, and the drain pipes on my sink. The thing was bigger than my poor little kitty, but she attacked him anyway and he bit her. She recovered, but has been on the revenge hunt ever since - there isn't a living bug, mouse, moth, etc anywhere to be found in my house now.

BTW - my son - the rat hunter - attacked it in the middle of the kitchen floor - and the boy won! Yay - no more rats!
