I think that wire trellises that are run between wood or plastic posts and don't go diagonally down to the ground at the ends would be the most at risk. Probably not much risk for most folks at home, as the runs are fairly short. But if you have a vineyard with long runs or the like it could be a concern. Probably more so if you live somewhere where there is a lot of lightning. Easy enough to ground, but if you don't than you run the same risk as any long horizontal wires do (fences, antennas, etc). They can pick up charge from electrical storms (not necessarily by being struck by lightning) and potentially deliver a shock to someone/something nearby or in contact. But if you live in an area where this is a potential danger, you likely have heard about it.

My is 6 year old bush. I see here quite often lists with roses that are doing well in TX. Perle d'Or, Marie Pavie, Belind's Dream, many Teas (not HTs)vand Chinas, etc. They all defoliate here from BS and not in just my garden ,so it is not my cultural conditions or something like this. So I challenge you, I think our BS is worse :). This is all about optimal temp for BS spore development, especially at night when the leaves are wet. We have it from spring till fall, 65-70 deg at night are the areas with the worst BS. You are warmer and this helps. Contrary to commpon believe "very hot and huumid" is better then just hot and humid. You should have more BS in spring and fall then in summer. Michael, yes it gets Cercospora too, but BS is another story and it certainly gets it bad (naked) here. Olga

The Pine Hills Nursery on the Kiln Delisle road is back in operation. (Just N of I-10) Most of what they have right now is trees. (I noticed some fruit trees) (They lost teir green houses in Katrina.) I would also touch base with the Crosby Arboretum. I assume they've re opened as they're farther inland. They usually have a number of tree and plant sales in the spring. If they're able to have them this year. The advantage with them would be the plants can handle our summers. Well, you got the wrong side of the 74. I provided a link which shows my microclimate and zone and I choose the road map view so I can pinpoint exactly our zone. It says our minimum temp is 25-30, and that could be true, but only one day out of the entire year. It's mostly 30-35 min temp, and that is only 1-2 days. It snowed last year, but never stuck. We have the same climate as Temecula. In fact, wine country is creeping this way. Huge vineyard at the bottom of our hill. Fun to see all the little microclimates though! We are off Stetson in the hills on the East side of State. Our soil is decomposed granite. Drains well. If a tree can get it's roots under a boulder, it will be fine, and there are tons of boulders here both hidden underground and hugely visable above.
