how to tell when korean melon is ripe - dua gan
Comments (1)johndoug There isn't a lot of information on the internet, but it looks as if they're ripe when they've turned yellow and are heavy for their size. You can't tell by the smell as you can with several other melons. Here is a link that might be useful: dua gan...See MoreMelon Update & Honey Orange melon review (pics)
Comments (11)Nice looking melons. I bet they taste great. I got a honey dew melon and a cantaloupe going in a swc. I'm anxious to see how they taste. Dont know if your into watermelon but I've been growing Blacktail Mountain for three years now. The great thing about this watermelon is it ripens just fine in cooler weather and their only about 8-12 pounds. But the best thing about Blacktail Mountain is the taste and texture, just awsome, really sweet and crisp flesh. It never lets me down after three seasons. Comments (4)Thanks, guys! I will keep closer tabs on the color next year. It's funny, I don't really remember the color changing, but I was monitoring 3 different types of melons all for the first time. I'm probably misremembering. I think I found those when I started smelling them. I wish I had'nt limited this thread to charentais, now I'm wondering if there's a good way to tell when th butterscotch melon is ripe. Those I remember changing color. Are they supposed to still be very firm-fleshed when ripe? I was never quite sure. What are they? A small honeydew? An asian type? Anyhow, thanks again!...See MoreKorean Melon Ripeness Question
Comments (2)Thanks for the info , I am going to go right out and harvest LOL! Part of my problem with this melon vine was the cold late Spring we had. I was really ready to plant a late crop in the area where the Melon is, as there appeared to be no signs of germination from the 6 seeds I planted. But right around the end of June begining of July , POP I find one seed barely sprouted. So I figure the late start led to a tiny vine and my one melon....which I treasure LOL! Thanks Again! :)...See Moretammysf
