It sure is Beautiful! Glad you were able to bring it back! BUT, it's NOT a Christmas cactus, it's an Easter Cactus(Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri) I had a fuchsia flowering one yrs ago but I over-watered it I guess:>(

Hye Billy Rae, glad you like the pictures and I am glad too that I was able to save it. Funny though, I did a search before posting because my sister told me it was a Christmas cactus, and sure enough, the site told me that Christmas cactus is the only one that has the rounded instead of spiked "leaves". Then yesterday I did a search on the Easter cactus because of your post and it tells me that the Easter cactus is the only cactus that has rounded instead of spiked "leaves". Go figure. I'm going to call it my "Cindy cactus". That's my sister's name and will be right every time. LOL

June, I hope I'm allowed to disagree with all of the above. These are not succulents. They are jungle cactus called Epiphytic Cactus, they grow where they can in trees. I am quoting, in part, from the CSSA Journal December 2006. They need to be in hanging baskets. Soil can be changed if you insists, I find it hard to print the whole instructions here. It needs a fast draining mix with humus in it. Leaf mold, bark, and Med. size perlite for drainage. Keep the other junk out. Just add to your regular mix extra Leaf mold, or Orchid bark. It likes the same soil that Orchids grow in. It likes an occasional feeding of Osmocote 14-14-14 after it flowers. (Dec.Jan.) Apply 2-10-10 in Feb. or March. this will stimulate Spring flowers. Keep slighty damp and frequently misted until new growth forms within 6-8 weeks. Do not root in water! P.S. you may use an Epi mix as well. They grow in semi-shade, then they will flower. Your plant is a Rhipsalidolpsis gartneri (Spring or Easter cactus) not to be cunfused with Schlumbergera buckleyii(Christmas cactus) Both have rounded stems, EC has wider and thicker stem segments than CC.

Bonny,

The flowers on your cactus are short with pointed pedels, the thanksgiving and christmas flowers are longer, more rounded and trumpet like.

Very nice! The key to the difference is the flower; Easter cacti have a flower quite different from either Xmas cactus or Thanksgiving cactus.

The link provided can probably show the difference, I didn't look (as I can see it quite clearly in the pic you provided vs. the Xmas cactus I bloom at Home).
