Think spring! A picture from last spring!

I am sooooooo thinking spring! (Good-bye winter!) This is a picture I took at our pond last spring of Canada Geese and their babies. Aren't they cool?! Think spring! Think spring! Think spring! Bear Hugs! Kirk

Think spring??? It's think babies, what a bunch of little beauties & parents arn't bad either!!!Each one is little ball of sunshine tho! Do they stick around & raise them at your place or were they just passing through!! How lucky you are to have such majestic birds visit you! My favorite toy was made by my dad, It was a swan glider that I sat in & loved to go back & forth, we lived in Glendale until I was about 4 ,well from 3 mos until 4 yrs as I was born in S.D. I guess we left it for some other child to enjoy. I have pics but guess no way to get on Internet!! How is the snow at your house, still stacked high? Enjoyed the pic! Jan

Daffodils and crocus are beginning to bloom here and the trees are budding. The birds are restless and cleaning out my feeders on a daily basis. Our local Canada geese are pairing off and claiming territory.
Spring is just around the corner!

I have quite a few tubers left over from last spring. Some were in vermiculite, some in saran wrap, some in peat moss and some in nothing at all, but all look viable and have either eyes or sprouts and no mold or rot. I have put them in a box and will plant the ones I need more of in a section of the garden and see how they do. Can't stand to throw things away with potential! If they are varieties that I lost over the summer, I will put them on the bench and take cuttings. Teresa

Today is another nice day and I was outside this afternoon pushing off and taking off mulch that had blown around (fall leaves) off some of the tulips. The three new sections of Darwins (some are shown in the tulip picture I took above) which are now on their second spring are coming up really nicely. I planted them deeply not last fall but the year before. At this stage just from looking I can't see any difference between what they looked like last spring coming up and what they look like now. Meaning the beds looks full with lots of tulips so looks like great return. But I was also removing mulch from the section of the extra early mix I bought from Scheepers. Those are not Darwins, they bloom earlier. I had 200 but from the looks of what is coming up, nowhere near that now. Poor return. Looks like less than half of what I had last year. I am hoping that since it is still early more of those tulips might still come up but not sure that will happen. I should of planted more of those extra earlies along in that same section like I thought of doing this past fall but for some reason I didn't order them and didn't do it. As of now I deffinately plan to add more of them this fall. The section I am referring to is in the front yard between and in back of the daylilies along the stone wall. Then I also have a section in another garden bed. Some perrenials in the back (columbines) then a row of daffs in front of that. Literally a row because that is how I planted them. Then a row of clumps of tulips in front of the daffs. They were planted 5 of a type in a grouping in a hole. Then dig next hole next to it and five more and so on. Well some clumps comming up but bare spots between them which means certain clumps not coming up at all. These were non darwins, don't remember which class, that I bought because they were so pretty. Planted just as deeply. So no knowing if they might show up but not looking promising. I will have to replant there by just marking with a brick each empty spot in the row so I know were to put new clumps in the fall.

Mantis, this is my first year that Marseilles Watercolor has bloomed. I got 2 small fans early last year and they've grown, a bit, but not divided yet. Bud count was pretty low, but the fans are still rather small...I didn't count but I'd be shocked if it were more than 10 per scape. I paid $1 for a naked stick with a purple poof on top at the Will Rogers Plant Sale one year. Planted it at the back of the garden so I could at least get it in the ground. Forgot about it. The next year, something was coming up. I had no idea what it was. My neighbor didn't either. Figured I'd leave it and see what it would do. If it ended up a weed, I'd pull it. Didn't really do anything, but I let it alone again. The next year, Ohmygoodness! This was the perfect example of "The first year, it sleeps. The second year, it creeps. The third year, it LEAPS!" That is the story of how I became acquainted with Bee Balm.

OHHHHHH YESSSSSS!!! I am SOOO ready for spring!! I am sick to death of cold, dead plants, and gray days! Your geese are just too cute! Reminds me of the farm geese we pass going to our camper in the summer. The Daddy goose always runs out to the edge of the road and hisses at us when we slow down to look at the babies! Too funny!

What a terrific post card or greeting card that would make!!! We could send one to that lady on the news who keeps on having babies for her mom to help raise. LOL

I can see the beauty of your pond. What a blessing.

Here in N. TX we moved all of our house plants outside and now there is a freeze coming Saturday night. The problem is that it will probably jump back up to 60 degrees the next day. So I've got blankets spread out on the porch.

Ohhhhhh how beautiful.My Jinxie duck laid about 26 and has yet to start to set. I think she may never get to as her abusive husband duck Felix is to controlling and makes her spend all her time with him.

I have cabin fever.I can't wait to get outside.We're suppose to get snow this week end.But I don't go by the weather man,I look out the window.Can't wait to see which plants start coming up first.I have to start seed for veggies for my herb club plant sale and the mastergardners are asking us to plant extra veggies for the food pantry's.

We have mallards that come here in the early morning and late afternoon during the spring and summer. We love to watch them! Now we need a pond!!

The snow is coming down like gangbusters here right now...and I've had enough! I'm itching for warm weather!! I long to be outside, gardening in the nice warm sun!

Upkeep on our trees cost us a small fortune, but they're worth it. We get so much enjoyment from them. Except in the fall!! LOL
