Drain field for water softener.
Comments (3)Contrary to rumor no studies I've found have shown that a correctly sized and efficiently set up softener has caused any damage to a septic system. A correctly sized and efficiently set up softener should be regenerating no more frequently than once a week and the effluent sent to drain is approximately 50 gallons which is easily dealt with in even a minimally sized septic system. Many septic systems have a 1000 gallon or larger tank If your governing environmental authority prohibits softener discharge into a septic system then there are alternatives like a French drain type setup as biermech posted....See MoreWhat to plant for privacy near septic drain field
Comments (0)Along the side of my house I would like to create some privacy for a couple of windows. The drain field is about 5 ft away from the house. What can I plant that will create privacy but has a shallow fibrous root system? Would ti or crotons be safe? If I was to plant some areca palms how far away should they be? Mahalo!...See MoreWhat to plant for privacy near septic drain field
Comments (2)I think the palm roots would find their way into the drain field. Dypsis lutescens can grow to 30 feet in a few years with a root system to support it. Can you plant on the far side of the drain field? Are you on windward (wet) side? Hawaii is crazy -- on the wet side, even huge trees tend to grow pancake root systems. Dry side may be different, roots going deeper to reach moisture. Ti plants don't have a lot of spread for privacy. Maybe a Medinilla plant or croton will be okay, or provide a low support for a Monstera?...See MoreSeptic system without drain field
Comments (4)It wouldn't, unless it is buried very deep and in exclusively rocky/sandy soil. Even then, it won't function well for very long with much use. In fact, at the point of sale you may be required to bring it up to code. Check with your local authority before you purchase this place....See Morelorna-organic
