Damage to bark on new apple tree -- what to do?

Today I found a vertical 1/2 inch slit in the bark of my just-planted 'Goldrush' apple whip. It is small, but the bark has pulled away a bit from the cambium (?) there, and is slightly loose. I looked for but did not see signs of bugs. What could this be? The tree otherwise looks healthy. Is there anything to worry about, or anything I should do? Thanks.
