Waterproofing existing tufa

amaretto

I just finished my first hypertufa rock project.

They came out pretty nice and are still curing after about 72 hours. I did notice that when wire-brushing, I exposed some of the chicken wire (about 2 to 3 exposures per rock).

This is a concern because I also filled the mold with newspaper wrapped in plastic bags. If water or humidity get to them, I can imagine the kinds of bugs I'll be attracting.

I was thinking about using the rocks as a landscape border, but given it took me 2 days to make 4 1.5x.75x.75 boulders, I'd say I have quite a few days ahead before I can finish.

So, the question is, what do I do with them now? I was thinking about maybe making a small water fountain with them.

So, given the exposed wire issue, will concrete sealer do the trick, or am I completely off my rocker?

Thanks
