My new plan for next year's garden.

I ran an ad in the SC Market Bulletin for old or damaged straw. I am picking up about 30 bales Friday morning for $1.50 a bale.

My plan is to bush-hog the weeds and dead veggies and plow it under. Then spread the straw pretty thick over the garden area to overwinter.

Then in the spring I plan to try to lay off rows for planting with my tractor, which I'm thinking might not work so good because the straw will probably hang on the plow.

Second alternative would be to lay off the rows this fall and put the straw between the rows. Then in the spring run the plow back through the rows to loosen up the soil then plant. After the seeds emerge and/or my transplants are in the ground I can rake the straw around them.

Thoughts, suggestions?
