Big Plant ID - pics!

As many of you know, my brother has a fondness for purchasing very large plants....

He picked this up yesterday, and I told him I'd try to find an ID. The tips of the leaves have been "decoratively" snipped

(to hide the browning, no doubt). The main stems have a coconut-fiber, palm-like texture. Thanks for any help!

Hmm. Don't recall the name -- someone else will - but that palm normally has blunt tips -- not snipped at all.

Thanks! I was looking at palms this morning, but google didn't provide an immediate match...
The tips were snipped with pinking shears right in front of my brother and his girlfriend.
You can see unsnipped new growth near the base.

Hello terriberry in Ohio, Plant number 1 is probably some type of rue (Ruta species). Crush the leaves and see if they have a very strong, distinctive odor. If they do, then the plant is almost certainly a species of rue. Plant number 2 (the tough-leaved plant with small purple flowers) is very likely a comfrey of some sort (Symphytum species). Without flowers, it is very hard to say what plant number 3 is although my best guess is that it is something in the daisy family. However, flowers are needed to confirm its identity. Kristin, welcome to the forum. This is a GREAT place for a Florida gardener, whether just starting, or an old-timer with green thumbs, hands and shoulders. You will love it here. I started here over ten years ago and have learned just about everything I know from these forums. I had a variegated pittosporum and it grew like a monster. They have very few problems and are generally very healthy.
