Hypertufa Planter just turned three years old

I made this rather large hypertufa container three years ago and it has held up very well (other than the scuff marks at the bottom which came from moving it with a hand cart). The Bougainvillea plant has been in training for about 6 months.

I'm thinking about growing some green moss around her face.

It doesn't appear to have any freezer burn and the original wrapper doesn't seem damaged at all. I haven't thawed it out yet. I guess I'll cook it with a backup plan of BLT's, just in case. If it doesn't taste good I can give it to my cat he loves people food. I plan to brine it and cook it in my infrared cooker. Every turkey that I have cooked that way turns out great!

Little ones really don't understand polite conversation. They only learn by hearing it and even then it takes quite a while for them to get the hang on it. If your three-year-old starts arguing with you, it's often helpful to forget the literal meaning of the words and deal with the emotion of the words. "I'll bet you'd really like to do that," or "It sounds like you feel bad about that." Respond to what you think he's feeling rather than what he's saying. Don't argue with a toddler. It's pointless and makes you look and feel foolish. It weakens your authority. If his objections continue, you can always say, "This is what we must do now," and then smile and take his hand and help him do what must be done. And, yes, I am a grandmother, too. I have 7, ranging in age from 10 to 1.

If it is a male grafting female branches on may be an option. Even branches with big fruit like illinois everbesring. For now I would cut out the crossed or close branches. If they are growing straight up weight them down so they go lateral or cut them off.

Not sure Missy, I would guess that sealing it before use would defeat the fact that the untreated wood, being porous while untreated, would allow the plant to drain.

Thanks, sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I was on vacation at the seashore and did not want to return home. I had purchased a cement casting of the face a few years ago. I made a silicone mold out of the cement face and poured a plaster of Paris base to support it. I have recast the silicone mold several times with a straight cement mixture. I tried to use a hypertufa mixture to make the face but could not get good detail on eyes and nose so I just went with straight cement mixture. There are several helpful sites on this forum that explain how to create a silicone mold. I went onto the Web to find out how to create a POP support base. Let me know if you have anymore questions and I'll be happy to provide you with links. :-)

beautiful ! did you also make the hypertufa planter? If so, did you use any concrete mesh or fortifier in your tufa formula?
