That photo doesn't look like normal nitrogen deficiency to me. I think it may be a potassium or micro-nutrient deficiency. I'm just guessing without knowing more about what they're growing in. The beans sound to me like aphids and spider mites. check the underside of the spotted leaves for small red arachnids. My bitter melons took a long time to do much of anything but the weather warmed up for the past couple of months and I have fruit bursting all over now.

From Rutgers Publication E160 (from results in link below): Dogwood anthracnose or decline caused by the fungus Discula, is primarily a disease of flowering dogwood (Cornus florida). Tan colored leaf spots with purple margins form on developing leaves and flower bracts. These spots grow together, forming large blotches on leaf blades and along leaf margins. Infected leaves eventually die. The fungus may continue to grow down into the petioles and branches, resulting in the death of twigs and branches. Brown, elliptical cankers may form at the base of dead branches. Drought, winter injury, and environmental stress predispose dogwood to anthracnose. Kousa dogwood (Cornus kousa) is resistant to this disease. Proper Management Improve plant vigor, avoid moisture stress, avoid wounding, and prune affected branches 6 to 8 inches below diseased tissue during dry weather with sterilized pruning tools. Avoid planting dogwoods in shady or crowded areas. Chemical Control Chlorothalonil provides fair control of the leaf spot phase of this disease only. Apply the fungicide according to label recommendations. I expect you'd find similar information on the Cornell extension website. The Rutgers report on Trees and Shrubs from the 2008 Spring Flower Fair mentions two cornus florida varieties with anthracnose resistance: 'Appalachian Spring' and 'Cherokee Chief'. Some great advise already. I would get a bright light and check the underside of the leaves for mites. These tiny animals are the size of the sharp end of a pin. Look carefully under each leaf. Indoor potted bananas usually are attacked because of the ideal environment. They tend to suck the sap from the leaves, weakening the plant, slow growth, leave droop, leaf drop, death of plant. If you find them, wipe off with warm moist rag,rinse well. Or gently spray with hose under the leaves. Other than that, a transplant into a larger pot would be beneficial.

Hello, I grow several different types of okra each year. I also grow in raised beds and containers. I am not an expert and only offer my opinion from years of growing okra. I occasionally have the problem you show in your photos. I think it might be a moisture problem - the excess rain we had in May. I am in Central Virginia not far from you. When the weather gets hotter (June) - your okra plants should be just fine. When I have that type of leaf I pull them from the plants and usually when the weather drys out a bit and the temps get into the 90's I do not have further problem. I know this is not much 'technical' help but hopefully it gives you something to look forward to. Planting garlic around okra has never helped my okra. Of course in my location I tend to plant garlic in late September. Cheers, DL
