Couldn't get the thumbnail photo to enlarge, but, squinting through my tired old eyes it looks like a raspberry. Possibly a red raspberry? But it could also be a blackberry with small leaves. Does it have any thorns, and, if so, are they single and large or fuzzy and small?

Of course, waiting until it fruits is the best way to find out what it is, unless you are in a real rush. But you may never know the variety unless you can find that online nursery again and jog the old memory bank.

I would guess it is a black raspberry since the canes are purplish.

By the way you should know it is considered bad etiquette to ask the same question at the same time in two unrelated online forums. Please ask in one place first, and if you get no satisfactory answer then ask in the other. The reason for this is the people working hard spending time to answer in one forum may be wasting their time because the question was already answered in the other forum.

The shrub does have small hard thorns- not the fuzzy type.

I think I see tiny flowers on the bush, so hopefully, by summer, I should know

Lychee:

Small, hard thorns = blackberry, or maybe something like Tayberry. Those canes look a little creepier than the normal thorny type blackberry, which usually has erect canes.

Don, with the purplish canes its not like any blackberry or Tayberry. Black raspberries have small hard thorns by my estimation, but it depends what you are comparing them to.

I use Photobucket when I want to post a picture to this forum. They are an image hosting site for just this situation.

Go to http://photobucket.com/ Use the big red button to join. There is no cost to join. I haven't received any spam from them in the four months I've been a member.

Then upload your pictures to them. They have a good tutorial site if you need it:

Then use the HTML code (one of the three codes beneath each of your pictures on Photobucket) in your message on this forum. Tutorial for this if you need it:

Then submit your message.

When you return to this forum and open up the message in question... Voila! Your picture will be in your message at the place where you inserted the code.

thanks junior- that was incredibly easy.

here r 2 pics of the mystery bush. since i took these pics, the bush has developed numerous berry clusters that will opin soon to help solve the mystery
