How Flaps I was made

Here are some photos that show the process. I fear they will show up in reverse order ...

Photos should show:

1. the plain piece of styrofoam

2. the piece of styro with a chunk of wood on top (note it is wrapped in saran wrap so the flaps will release from the wood when they dry)

3. a piece of fiberglass mesh (EIFS) laid on the project to show how to do the flaps- I would put concrete on the styro base right over the mesh and bend the mesh up the wood and concrete over it to form a "flap". I would do this on each separate side to form 4 flaps. After 24 hours they will peel right off the wood and you can lay them back or position them however you want. The mesh acts like a hinge where the styro joined the wood. Then I paint slurry (portland and water) over the flaps til they achieve the stiffness I want. I shove concrete under the flaps to support them and strengthen the project.

4. a photo of the finished work before it is painted/decorated.

I would have coated the base styrofoam all over with concrete or quickwall before I started adding the flaps.
