Glueing Cement to Cement

I have many tufa leaves and a tufa face that I made a few years ago. I'd like to adhere the tufa leaves to the face thus making a 'Green Man' for my garden.

I've looked at some of the Lepage's PL products. Has anyone tried to do this? Has anyone used any of the PL products?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Poly glues like the one in your link are good but there is something to be said for soft set glues like silicone as well. They can help protect your leaves from breaking if bumped because they give a little. But poly glue can be painted, most silicones cannot.
Soft set epoxies are good, they give a strong weather proof bond but stay soft giving your work a bit of cushion. They dry clear as well. They are used on boats quite a bit.

Thank you very much, Pepper! Do you know of any brand names that I could look for? I live in a resort area and there are many marinas around -- should I head there?

fleur do not be discouraged by failures of peat. more on that in a moment. I will start by stating I have no exp with hypertufa. That is what led me here. However as most things I do, I try to think of all things untried from a start on the foundation of physics (career habit). I think your suggested mix will be ok with 1 additional additive, a plasticizer. My first thought is with such a large percentage of perlite your mold will have a sever case of crumbling due to the excessive expanding and contracting of the perlite material. This type of activity is only 1 of many cuases for cement base products to crack but probably the most common. I would try starting with very small batches for something simple like maybe some coasters for the coffee table. Just add some felt or cork to the bottom for protection of the table. In my search on the web I have found tons of various lightweight cement ideas but the Hypertufa seems to be the most practical for home use. There are a lot of other lightweights out there but they employ special manufacturing technics that are not possible/practical for small scale use. On your problems with the peat. I have read that the best way to prepare the peat is to completely break it up and soak it in water for a few minutes then squeeze the excess water out before adding to the mix. Not sure how peat is sold in your area but for me it is sold in compressed blocks and if I took a small clump and tossed it in water it would simply float for hours. I have to literally pulverize it before use. I recall the first time I used peat was for a mulch and the water just flowed right off the bed. So I had to go thru the whole bed and rake it all out. I learned it wasn't good for mulch so I mixed it in the compost pile, it did wonders there. I don't mean to be harsh but I find it difficult to think you have done it all correctly when so many people have succeeded. Keep in mind curing is critical and curing all depends on both ambient temp and humidity plus the moister content of the mix. In my area the only successful crack free cement projects I have seen is when the project is continuously kept moist for several days. The real tragedy in that is I rarely see that done. I work in the construction field and most houses I go to have cracks in the driveways and often in the foundation yet the contractors seem to just consider it normal. I personally would never buy a home with foundation cracks when it is only a few days old.

I used to visit a statuary shop in California quite frequently years back. One conversation with the owner was, "How do you repair a piece that breaks?" His answer was, "Use BONDO." This product is used by folk in the auto body repair business as filler for dents. Back in the 50Âs, when hot rods were on every block, BONDO was a key ingredient in creating stylish body adjustments. My suggestion is to pin the piece with a small diameter rod. Using a masonry drill (available at almost any hardware or home building supply) that is bigger than the metal rod drill a hole in both the head and the antler, mix the BONDO and fill each hole, insert the rod into the head, and push the antler on the remainder of the rod. You can wipe away the excess that should ooze out being careful not to disturb the bond, In 24 hours you should be able to dress the wound and be back in business. That's what I would do. Robert

Heat won't help, it'll make a gooey mess. If it is still sitting on top of the fibers rather than soaked into the pile you might try putting some duct tape. Roll it out in short sections, press down and pull up. The dried glue will stick to the duct tape adhesive. If it has soaked in and dried you will need to get a can of Bestine rubber cement thinner. Art stores carry this. Silver can with red and black lettering. Work a small area at a time as it evaporates quickly. Dribble some on and using a clean rag work it in a bit and wick it back up. Tape, glue, rubber cement??

I use a tape runner. I have bought mine from CM, but I have seen other name brands at craft stores and scrapbooking stores. They are the fastest. I used to use photo-tape, that come out on little blue squares. Those took a little longer because after you attach it to your picture, you still have to peel off the backing and stick to your album. I've used a glue stick when I first started scrapbooking and I found that if you spread it thin, everything will fall off your page. That's why I moved on to the "tape" type products. I have never used rubber cement.

I like G2 epoxy because it glues most anything. Check the link. Your marina will have something like it. There are smaller bottles as well.

Evening,Snikkers.
I've used the LePage PL's ,but not on concrete;worked damn fine with styro.Another glue,a relatively recent arrival,is Gorilla Glue.This stuff seems to stick anything to anything else.I've glued eyes onto my masks and the suckers stick through rain,frost,anything Ma Nature has had in store.You have some working time(about 20 minutes or so)before the glue sets up.Watch for expansion-this stuff swells by 20%,so use only a little.I mean,a little.I have a small tube that seems to last forever!

I've seen Gorilla Glue in the hardware stores. Living in Central Ontario, I need something that can take great temperture swings. I'm heading to RONA now so I'll pick some up.

I used epoxy on this leaf and it worked out great, just had to sit still for about 6 minutes, till it hardened. I have also used the gorilla glue, it works great also, but it does swell a lot.

If you are doing a green man, you can lay the face down in a pile of sand and add your leaves and crete, after it hardens you can turn over and peel the leaves off, then you won't need the glue.

Note to Gorilla Glue & any other urethane glue users...DO NOT GET IT ON YOUR SKIN!

Not toxic or anything, but...it turns your skin dingy black & nothing but time or sandpaper will correct the situation. It stays that way until the skin is replaced. Rubber gloves are a must.

Kinda' reminds me of an old "Cheers " episode where Miss Howe asks Woody if he understands the meaning of the word "insincere" and Woody replies..."Oh yes Mam, like "INflammable"...boy, I learned THAT one the hard way".
