QuikWall for leaf castings...need instructions

I am completely new at hypertufa. I just successfully removed my first projects from their molds. I was searching the internet to get info about leaf castings and came across beautiful castings made from quikwall. I can't seem to find any instructions explaining how it's done. I'd REALLY like to try this project. Any help is greatly appreciated. Below (hopefully) is a link to the page.

I think the link may be gone..not having any luck with it. I have been doing lots of internet searches (most without luck) and have the basic idea. In the link I posted, do you have any idea what type of paint would have been used to give the leaves that finish? Approximately how thick should I apply the quickwall? and, how do you get the detailed edges of the leaf? I could see mine looking more like paddles than leaves. Again, thanks for any help.

Ooops! I fogot one thing....Thank you, Louisiana Greetings, for the link to your tufa leaf photo. It's gorgeous! I'd love to know what you chose to color the leaf, as it seems to have stayed very vivid and rich. If that's off-topic to this thread, feel free to email me directly! Perhaps if I had access to something that large, the overall scale of the intentional 'defects'created by tufa recipes wouldn't seem so overwhelming to me? The hosta leaf I cast was only about 10" long, and maybe 5" or so wide, so every pit seemed ENORMOUS! LOL! Happy Tufa-ing! - Lisa

I had a condo in Richmond that developed leaks because the city of Richmond approved a change in the plans,allowing the developer to NOT put in certain support posts.The leaks led to me walking from mine.The city maintains that they did no wrong.To that,we all said"B......t!"And here,like many others in the area,it wasn't the stucco,but other problems.The primary problem that created the mess was a problem of vapour barriers that the various munis approved.Again,they aren't accepting fault for their engineers bungling.Classic political buckpassing! I now yield my soapbox. BTW,reading the instructions on Greatwall,there's nothing about waterproofing.I'd add Xypex to anything that calls for waterproofing,along with an appropriate finish. Greetings! I've been browsing the net for tips on just this subject and your thread has answered a lot of questions - thank you! I just have one more inquiry - do you know of a way to make the end product of one-part self curing silicones (after curing) softer and stretchier (lets say more like human skin, goal hardness is 10-30 shore A)? The reason I'm asking: I am a resident in heart surgery and I'm trying to make practice models of parts of the human heart and tissue to use for training outside the operating room. As you said the platinum cure silicones are used for this purpose but the price difference is tenfold and they're a bit too expensive for us.

You're so very welcome. Don't worry, the page isn't going anywhere. I work on this one web site that is really huge & there is lots of space - it's not going anywhere. Good luck everyone making a fountain. My sis has 2 huge fountains in her backyard - the man who built the house made the fountains. Her's are huge mounds that she has small bushes planted with small goldfish that go around the moat from the top to the bottom of the fountain. Wish I had pics of it to show. A great idea! I'm so excited. I just made my first green lady out of leaves. She's GORGEOUS! But my camera broke & can't take pics. It's the one where there is a grouping of leaves & her head is in the center like she's peeping out. It's so easy to make. Was waiting for Halloween to get a mask, now I have the mask & it's hard finding the leaves I want to use that aren't eaten alive with bugs!

Not sure what was used in your pic but I use watered down acrylic paint one coat at a time until it is the color I want. Experiment with different colors. Don't be afraid. When its done being painted I give it a coat of sealer.

The paint used was probably iridescent or pearlized acrylic paint. Don't know what happened to the link I posted above.
I use a damp pile of sand in a shallow box. Some people lay a clear piece of plastic (dry cleaner bag) over the sand. Place leaf with the back of the leaf facing up on the sand mound. Shape sand the way you want the final shape of the leaf. Remember you are working in reverse, so if you want the tip of the leaf to point down the damp sand at the tip of the leaf has to point up. When you place the mix on the back of the leaf start in the middle, down the center vein, and pat the mix to move it toward the edge. Depending on the size of the leaf you can put down one layer, lay down a layer of mesh tape that they use for dry wall, then add another layer of QuikWall.
