money tree dying

I have a braided mney tree that is about 3 to 4 ft tall in a pot that is 10 to 12 inches in diameter. The tree has be going downhill fast in the winter months. It has lost a lot of leaves and stems along with the stalks of the braids seem to be dying. I have lost 1 so far but I think the others may follow suit. The stalks have little brownish gray dry spots on them. I poured some hydrogen peroxide on the soil hoping that this will kill and bacteria. I think that I may be over watering but not sure. The plant is still sprouting new growth but it is very thin and the main stalks are not looking good. Any suggestions PLEASE!!!!!!

Cmorton, I believe you answered your own question..overwatered..
Did you repot your MT in this size pot? If so, what type of soil did you use? Was it well-draining?
Pachira's need less water in winter..a decrease in water should be started around Sept/Oct well into Feb/Mar, or when you notice new growth. Fertilizers should be stopped altogether during this period.

Try Houseplant and Container Forum for many, many Threads on Pachira aquatica. Pachira like well-draining soil, thorough watering, and lots of light. Mine is still outdoors, although it will be coming in soon....now that nights temps are dropping. Pachira is fairly easy to propagate from healthy cuttings. I just cut, and then stick the cutting in a container of bark-based potting mix. I have also propagated Pachira from the leaves. In fact, my Pachira was started from a leaf. Here she is today. Josh

Agreed.....it's dead. This happens a lot due to poorly draining soil, such as Miracle Grow potting mix, or similar. Joe

I agree with Toni! Re-pot it in fresh media quick! I just got a money tree and transplanted it into a slightly larger pot, and made up a mix of potting soil, pearlite, peat/sphagnum, and Orchid bark. The tree will get nutrients from the soil, and the pearlite and peat/sphagnum will help to drain the soil but retain water that is needed. The bark helps to drain the soil as well. Fresh media that isn't water saturated may help, and you can check the roots out while you're at it! Keep us posted!

Hi - Hoping I can get a some help to save my tree... I took some pictures which are below. Only one of my four stems seems to be healthy and growing new leaves. The other three are in various levels of sick. Help! I usually only water when the soil is dry. Lately I've let it dry out a lot because I thought maybe I was over watering it. The tree means a lot to me and I really don't want it to die! Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.This is the only healthy branch. This is the one that's the most sick. You can see that it's started to change color and wrinkle/twist. This one's leaves shriveled up. This is the only healthy branch. and here's the whole tree... looking sad. After reading a lot of these threads, I've stopped watering it. I think I over watered it this winter. I'm not sure if the wrinkled branch is dead or not. Is it possible to cut the tip of it off?
